I stopped in to Tuffy one day to see how much it would cost to quiet the exhaust system down. They put my Jeep Wrangler up on the lift and then came out to the lobby and told me My exhaust manifold had a crack in it. I asked how much and the manager, Ron told me "do you really want to know?" I said sure. He said the part is $157.00 and the labor would be $200.00 something plust taxes so the total would be roughly, $400.00. I said no thank you. I went to a local auto parts store and asked how much an exhaust manifold would cost me. They told me $102.00 out the door. I bought it. I hired the local mech. in my area to help me change this. We spent the morning getting the part off of my jeep and to our surprise, There was NO crack, only a loose bolt. I do know of four people that wittnessed this will never shop at Tuffys ever again and I am thinking they will pass this info along to other hatrd working customers.

Make sure you are getting what you pay for at these shady auto repair shops, they like to RIP YOU OFF.

All I can think of is paying $400.00 to tighten up a lose bolt.............

Sorry you feel you got "taken advantage of" ...however:

1. you did not want to pay anything for an inspection. You asked to have it looked at for free. I told you from what I could see it looked like it was leaking at the exhaust manifold. Most likely cause was a cracked exhaust manifold.

2. It took you AND your "mechanic" all morning to figure it out yourself. So that is 2 men at 3 hours...or 6 man hours of labor before you could figure it out. A service you refused to pay for.

3. Of course when we got the manifold off I would have seen the issue with the bolt and just installed or replaced the gasket on it. If it's leaking over a gasket or machined fit for any reason a new gasket must be installed. We only repairs cars correctly... we fix it right. We are not back yard hacks. If the manifold was not broken, we would not have replaced it.

4. I don't use Autozone, Advanced, or "internet" parts because I am not putting Chinese garbage on a car.

5. Again, you spent Zero, nothing... to have your car diagnosed or repaired... so I'm curious how do you feel you got "ripped off" ?
