I was contacted by Tyler Johnson owner of Urban Room to Audition for "Plus or Minus" back in 2012. After my first audition he told me he would like to work on managing me, but we will "see how it goes" He did not mention before or during the audition that this project would Require nudity. At the call back it was only him and his camera! the first scene we did involved the character taking a pregnancy test, with that being said Tyler Johnson asked me to pull my pants down as if I were using the bathroom and taking a test because he needed to "see it."
This made me feel very uncomfortable, however I proceeded. Another scene was a sex scene A flashback to the character and her boyfriend being intimate. He proceeded to set his camera up and come next to me to discuss the scene. He then told me that he was going to perform the scene with me. He asked me what did I see in the scene and I told him. He then told me I had to kiss him and touch his private part. He told me if I imagned the characters with their clothes off then I need to take off my clothes.
He wanted to touch my breast all while recording this. i refused to kiss or touch him and he told me that I have to take risk in this business. That I can't be scared or I won't work. He can not "manage" someone who us afraid. i asked him where the male actor was for this project and he "Couldn't make it" I think you need the other character there to get a real idea of the chemistry?! The girl who auditioned before me left the room in shorts a t shirt and her clothes and shoes in her hand. Which raised my suspicion from the beginning.
Anywho, I left that day in distress because I questioned was I afraid to take risk & will I make it.... learning more about the business & working on my craft I realized that he is wrong he was trying to manipulate me and I did the right thing by leaving. I trusted my gut. I just hope that other young women in this industry realize you do not have to sell yourself short for a job. Do not take your clothes off. & Do not be taken advantage of. you're hired for your talent not your ability to take your clothes off at auditions! xoxo
