In the name of full disclosure, let me tell you I hate Uncle Bob's with a passion because my wife was fired from that company for cooperating with a police investigation of a series of thefts at one of their locations in Phoenix, AZ. As far as I am concerned, SOVRAN is just the New York mob.
Self storage leases are considered to be commercial leases in most states. In a commercial lease, the landlord is not liable for anything except deliberate damage caused by the landlord or his employees. Unless you can prove that Uncle Bob's employees deliberately poked a hole in the roof so it would damage your property, you are stuck with the damages. I think this is wrong, but it is the law.
In viewing your pictures, I noted a big mistake. You should never store cardboard boxes directly on the floor of any storage unit. Had they been on pallets, wood or plastic, they would not have wicked up the water from the floor. Plastic storage units with a one-piece lid are usually superior to cardboard for long-term storage. You should visit your unit at least once a month to ensure that there is no long-term problem. Since only you have access to your locker, the management has no way getting in to see if the roof is leaking; they rely on you to let them know. You made a really bad assumption that Uncle Bob's was looking out for your stuff instead of looking after it yourself.
