I am writing as a warning to ANYONE who is self employed and currently paying a Protection premium thru their credit card company.

Since 10-1-2001 Our valued credit card company has been charging us a little over $50.00 per month for a Payment Protection Insurance policy.

Fortunately until this year we have never felt the need to "benefit" from this policy but due to multiple circumstances beyond my control I went ahead and called into Union Plus on Monday Feb. 19th to file a claim for benefits.

I spoke with "Mir" a C/S rep at the PPI department 800-370-6346. Mir took some basic information and asked if he could get a copy of my unemployment benefit statement. I explained to Mir that I am self employed and I never file for un employment. (that is a whole other discussion)

Mir placed me on hold. About 20 minutes later (no joke) he returned to the call to advise me that my status was not applicable for this benefit. I explained that I (my husband as the primary card holder) have been self employed since April of 2001. I further explained that when we took our withdraw from the Union in the fall of 2001 and contacted Union plus to change the account over, they solicited this benefit to me as a "buffer" type security for the start up of my business. At no point in time did we get any detailed provisions of the qualifications of this plan. We were told that if we became sick, not able to work, or un employed we could apply for certain benefits and IF the primary card holder died the card would be paid in full up to $5 grand.

After Mir explained that I could not file a benefit claim for PPI I kindly asked him to check and see how much we have paid into the useless program. He came back to the line and said $2618.14!! I about died! I knew it had to be a lot but hell that is half of our current balance! I then demanded that the consider the fault of the solicitor and give me back my premiums. He told me he could not do that and put me through to a supervisor. That gentleman never even picked up the phone at first but THRU Mir offered me a settlement of $200.00 and a cancellation WITHOUT penalty. After I kindly told Mir I was not F___ ing around anymore he got me Marco Cruz who repeated his offer.

I then explained that I was not only being frauded but also bargained with to just go away and I am not going to tollerate it. Mr. Cruz then got another person to get on the phone named Lillian. Lillian is filing the dipute and she said it can take awhile. Now, remember I have been self employed longer that the plan has been in affect. They claim that a little terms and conditions was mailed out talking about exclusions. I verbally reviewed that information on the phone and they still sold it to me. Lillian is also compiling and mailing a report to me of ALL the payments I made to PPI. My plan is to have a banker friend compute the interest I lost and then file a suit against them.

So, if you are SELF EMPLOYED your "PPI" aint work A "POOP"!

UNION PLUS CC ISSUE RESOLVED - CARD CANCELLED IN RETALIATION

I need a lawyer - preferably one that specializes in unfair CC practices. As noted above, we got our credit for PPI. All of the sudden, I log into my account today only to see that our account has been closed and reported to the credit bureaus as such. They CLAIM it was done in June but I know for a FACT it was not done until this month. They claim they can close an account anytime but based on the reason - this is not a fair ending to our dispute. Reason: None payment - payments made Sept $300.00 - Oct $300.00 I have a call into the executive resolution department and they are the ones that told me NOT to pay on the account! I want to see what their reaction is. IN the meantime i want to speak to someone in the business of pointing out these types of unfair practices and getting consumer justice! I was told not to pay a DIME until the dispute was corrected and as soon as they started the credit, I paid $300.00 MONTHLY since Sept. Can somebody help me? I am SICK to my stomach! We have had THIS credit card for 9 years. It is not MY fault they made an error in processing the PPI for a self employed person. If we had not called back in Feb. we would still be conttributing to the PPI BLACK HOLE! HELP US PLEASE!!! SJ Nelson 815-498-1368

HIS PAYMENT PROTECTION THRU HSBC TEAMSTERS UNION PLUS CC

TODAY 10/10 I have been successful in receiving back a total of $3,048.62. With that being said, I have asked on several dates for the account representative to send to me an explaination of this credited amount. I am pleased that I am making progress however I am still missing over $1500.00 in fees and interest! I am hoping for additional resolution in the near future. IF YOU HAVE AN HSBC UNION PLUS CREDIT CARD WITH HIS PAYMENT PROTECTION I WOULD SUGGEST TRYING TO USE THE BENEFITS BEFORE YOU PAY IN YEARS OF PREMIUMS ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THE PROGRAM IS NOT FOR SELF EMPLOYED CARD HOLDERS IT HAS TAKEN ME OVER 60 HOURS TO GET THIS PREMIUM REFUND AND NOW I AM FIGHTING FOR FEES AND INTEREST CHARGES. I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED ON MY PROGRESS!

Seems to me you want to get a much firmer control of ALL of the details of your affairs if you are going to survive as ''being your own boss''. It is a tough world out here.

HSBC - PPI accepting error - waiting for response of corrective action

To start, I am going to throw out a question and hopefully whomever reads through these will answer it. How much do you think this nation pays in "payment protection premium fees" that NEVER get a chance to be exercised? I am referring to that little "check box" on a loan application for a car, house - fancy tri cycle...? Do you ever stop to think that if you NEVER use it how much these companies are racking in? I recently received a call (today 8/7 ) from a representative of HSBC PPI services who stated that she is VERY sorry but when I was denied PPI coverage in February - that was incorrect information and until I sent a "I AM PISSED OFF AT YOUR COMPANY AND REFUSE TO PAY ANOTHER DIME ON MY CREDIT CARD LETTER UNTIL YOU RESPOND TO ME" inquiry letter...she did not know this was occurring. Please read above original post for the details of my claim. None the less, Tammy - is supposed to have Supervisor Lynette call me back to present some form of "corrective action" resolution. With that being said, I wonder how many people don't sit down to write the letter I wrote and get totally screwed by these programs...? They are admittingly stating that IF the right people had been working my claim file in February I would not be in this position. In addition, they are stating that IF those same individuals would have passed my expedited claim onto a supervisor, they would have been able to help me in FEB. Amazing is'nt it??? With all due respect - I think that HSBC - PPI need to be investigated for unfair and deceptive practices. As embarrassing as it is to admit I need financial help to the public..I am MORE embarrassed I spent 9 years paying into a program that did not amount to squat! Today, I am calling all of our lending agents to varify WHICH PPI programs are valid and which ones are not. PEOPLE OUR ECONOMY SUCKS and we need to stand up to the money rapists and lenders and credit card companies that do not follow thru on services promised initially deserve to be put on the stand! I am filing an unfair and deceptive practice claim if I do not hear back from this "supervisor" with a corrective action that is worth the problems I have incurred over the past 6 months!
