I was a customer of UAC. I was making my payment on time except for a couple of occasions. I was out of work on disability, and they knew that, but I still made every effort to make my payments on time. I was running late for my June payment in 2005, and they had called me several times asking for the payment. I went out of town for the 4th of July holiday and was planning on making the payment when I returned. This however was not good enough for UAC. I returned to find my car missing, no phone calls, letters or anything, nothing as in terms of any legal action being taken. At this point I had thought someone stole my car and called the police. A week went by and I received a letter in the mail stating that they were going to repo my car if I did not submit my payment for June. 2 days after that letter I got a polite letter kindly asking for the payment and no action was being taken, just that they wanted the payment. In my opinion, the people at UAC were very rude, sleazy and they do everything in their power to screw people over. They were charging 24% interest on the loan, which is their standard. They called myself, my employer and managed to get family members phone number that they did not have on file, and do not know how they got them. I felt very harrassed by UAC. I do not know if this company is still in business, but they need to be taken down due to their unfair business practices.

What's unfair?

You don't pay or develop a history of making late payments and the repo the car. What's unfair about that? Actually, no company ever wants to repo the car - they want the money. They repo the car when they have had enough trouble getting paid on time. Further, they are in the business of giving auto loans to folks with credit issues, so that makes them less tolerant of the occassional late payment as a regular bank might be. If you work at paying your debts as agreed and let some time pass, your credit score will improve to the point where you won't have to use outfits such as they - you'll be able to get an auto loan from your neigborhood bank branch office.
