United Marketing Group Fraudulent charges to credit card not authorized Schaumburg Illinois
On 7/5/08 my wife saw a infomercial on TV for a microwave pasta cooker. The company was Pasta n More. The ad stated the cooker was 19.95 plus shipping and handling. She called the number 1-800-479-5419 and got a automated system. She answered the questions and ordered only the cooker after which a message said money would be charged each month to her credit card for membership in some group unless she canceled it by calling 1-888-673-1305.
My wife gave me this information and I quickly called the number. She had not made any request to join any group. I had to wait for the next available person and finally "Robert" came on. he told me they were United Marketing Group. He told me I had to wait 72 hours and call back because it would take that long before he got the information from Pasta N More. He further stated if I didn't call back I would be charged every month for membership.
I told him my wife did not ask to join any group and he said basically, tough, thats company policy. I asked how they could just decide to use a credit card number given to another company to charge people for a service they did not request or authorize. He said that was company policy. I hope this report will reach the proper federal agency to shut this scam down. I think any other companies in compliance with this scam such as Pasta N More should be held accountable. They have no right to give your credit card information to anyone else.
