United Quality Publication, Inc. David Bennett (Buckeye) Selling Magazines for a trip. Gave a check. Later searched internet for company. Saw others were scammed! Pensacola, Florida
So, a guy in his early 20's comes to the door saying he is tryign to raise money for a trip. He said my neighbor reccomended he come to my house since I am military. He told me he was a marine. I talke to him about that, and he was def. prior military by knowing some of the accronmyms used, etc.
I asked him what he needed? he told me he was selling magazines and he gets points.
I invited him in. More war stories (from Iraq, again, prooved he was legitimate). I looked over the list of magazines. Finally decided on one.
I asked if I could use a CC. He said no, he needed cash or a check. He said he gets more points for cash. I told him no way, and wrote a check. He told me to write it out to U.Q.P. I did. He put his initials on the check (not on the To, but above in the blank area).
He thanked me, and left.
I then "googled" the name of the company and saw others were ripped off! I couldn't find the company web site anywhere.
I immediately called my bank and cancelled the check and told them what happened. They assisted me in putting a "security Freeze" on the account, etc.
I have called the # listed on the really official looking receipt he gave me. It is a female on a answering machine. No-one ever answers. And of course doesn't return my calls.
This is a Scam!!!
I will NEVER do that again! I was trying to help a former marine. Oh well. Lesson learned. I hope me doing this will help other avoid this and maybe catch these stealing low-lifes!

UPDATE:
I sent in the receipt they gave me in order to cancel the order per their policy on the receipt. I did this the next day so I meet their 3-day requirement. I figured it was a done deal. Not so!
I get a letter from RLA Inc. They threaten that if I don't pay them the original order amount, AND a returned check fee, they will report me to all 3 Credit Bureau's. So, I file a complaint with Florida Beter Business Burea. RLA just dances around the issue and not addressing my complaint that I sent them the cancelled order form. Again back and forth through BBB. After so many go arounds, the BBB closes the case.
Being in the Military, I get free legal advice. So, my next step is to report them to the Florida State's Attorney's Office and Maryland State's Attorney's Office. I encourage everyone to do the same. File with BBB, do the "Dance" with them that will reslt in nothing other than to continue giving them the "F" they deserve. Then you should contact the State's Attorney's Office and file a complaint.
If enough people do this, it WILL make a difference.
