Hi Spense, I checked out the link you provided as defense for the UoP. "Before joining the department, Stroup served as the director of industry and government affairs for the Apollo Group Inc./University of Phoenix." I figured this article would state that some person who had GRADUATED from the UoP had received this prestigious position. Being a director of industry for Apollo Group Inc./University of Phoenix is not the same thing as graduating from UoP and receiving such a position. I would like to see testimonies of UoP GRADUATES with high-ranking well-paying careers who were hired because of a degree they received from UoP. I have yet to read any such testimony here. Weird.

In my previous post I did forget to mention that many complaints I came across regarding UoP is that the students feel the courses were very easy and they were not learning as much as they should be. One former accounting student with UoP stated that she feels that in a traditional college/university environment, she will be below her peers. Others have stated that they received A's for simply turning in assignments on time, but yet they knew the quality of their homework was below that, and yet others have stated that the courses they took were not relative to the degree they were trying to obtain. I have yet to read a comment from any individual while enrolled with UoP that have stated their online courses were extremely challenging. But, I am still researching....

You state that people need to take responsibility for their own actions, look before they leap and and so forth, but I find it hard to believe that all the people who have posted their negative experiences with UoP are just blatantly irresponsible, totally ignorant and not taking better control of their lives. I have read scores of testimonies and rebuttals this evening regarding UoP, and there is just not enough positive information here, regarding UoP, that will induce me to enroll. And just this evening I had strongly considered it, until I looked before I leapt. Thanks for the warning Spense. Was my grammar, spelling and punctuation adequate enough for you?

I have read complaint after complaint about UOP and Axia College on this site. I am a current student at Axia/UOP and have had a positive experience. I have not had a single issue with financial aid, but I am using my Montgomery GI Bill to pay for it. Perhaps there are issues that I am unaware of that are being handled by my VA representative. I have a few items of contention with some of the complaints posted in this thread. First of all, as a consumer, the responsibility of research lies in the buyer's hands. I have spoken with a number of college admissions offices and they ALL use a sales pitch. I don't know if you have realized it, but the days of education being for knowledge are long gone. All colleges, universities, community colleges, and technical colleges charge something for the service of providing an educational foundation. One must also realize that the "online" education is relatively new to the corporate community. I am a hiring manager for my company and candidates are judged on a number of different areas. A candidate who is willing and dedicated enough to put in the time and effort to complete any type of education will obviously be placed ahead of a candidate who has not attempted to further their education. As far as the academic advisors and the financial advisors are concerned, I have not had a single problem with the frequency of their communication. I have had one of each for the entire time I have been enrolled. I have seen all too often, a student believing he/she will be able to breeze through the courses and come out on the other side with a degree. The university is accredited appropriately and is recognized by the DOE as an institute of higher learning. I have spoken with admissions counselors at traditional colleges and they have told me that if I transfer from UOP with an Associate's Degree, they are bound by the accreditation rules to view the degree as being valid. In fact, the President of the university was a sitting member on the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity for the Department of Education. I would say that the DOE tapping the University for that Seat should say something for them. Some decisions bring benefit while others bring consequence. It is of absolute importance that people take responsibility for their choices. I have been attending Axia College UOP for one year now. I will graduate in November 2009. I have yet to have a problem with anyone at this school so far. They have refunded my left over money from financial aid and all of my classes are going well. The teachers are very insightful and the institution altogether shows a lot of concern and positive information. I have yet to have a problem with anyone or anything at this school and would recommend it to anyone who is looking to attend online classes. Have you asked about receiving a new finance and academic counselor. The only "little" problem I have had so far, and it is really not a problem at all, is that my finance and academic counselors switch around like crazy. I have a different counselor each month; which sometimes can be a hassle.

From the structure, grammar, and spelling it looks like it would be in your best interest to actually finish college. The comment about the size of UoP made me laugh because they are currently around 400,000 students. So that compares to Oregon State's size and whatnot? Riiiight. I graduated from UoP and it's pretty easy to figure out how the finances work. You get half of your money sent from your lender to the school for the 1st half of the year. About 4 or 5 months later, you get the other half of the money allotted to you for the 2nd half of the year. I had a great experience with UoP and am flabbergasted by the ignoramuses on this site who come down from the hills to git on a com-pooter and say they got ripped off. When it comes to money, everyone should do as much research as necessary to completely understand the processes. Just because you don't understand doesn't mean you got ripped off, you're just ignint.

I felt the need to point out that you can come on here and claim your collage is not a rip off, but I can tell you that after this last two months I have come to the conclution that they can be ripoffs and are much more. I have been going to UOP since march of this last year and I have seen more things that make no since. for one, the money thing, please I know for a fact that UOP is no bigger then North Idaho State. or Orgeon State University, and when your checks are dispursed to you you get them withen days not months. you caant tell me that it takes UOP over 14 weeks to ddispurse to students their money. I know there is paper work, and so on, but please, how much red tape do you have to go through. I waited 3 months for a check that still have yet to come, and I only got 1/2 of it sent to me, their excuse for the rest, is that they want me to take another class, rip offs are exatly that, when it only takes a little common knoladge to see that someone is yanking your chain and taking you for a ride. I cant say all of the employees of UOP are that way, but if you work in the finance office or the academac office, 7 out of 10 says you know more then you let on and you still wont send us to the right person for help, till our eloted time has run out. if I am wrong, I happly ask for you to proove it, becauause I know now, I am not the only one, and you cant cover for the over 300 people that have loged in complants. sincerly U.O.P Student no longer.

It is interesting on how you say complex financial aid process, if you read my post correctly, I am complaining about the school refusing to return my personal signature loan. This was a loan taken out under my credit that went to the school, and never used for classes, and not returned to me or the lender. This is different from financial aid. My calls have been ignored, not returned after leaving numerous messages to the counselors, and their managers. I have never once said that everyone there is a liar or a theif, nor did I leave anyone with that assumption. I did state they are ripping me off. And that is a fact, I can fully prove. I have a complaint filed with the deputy director of the department of education in Arizona, and am in contact with them daily, I am allowing them to handle this from here on out. I appreciate your offer to help, but I am not sure there is anything you are able to do. I have read the complaints from other counselors, and ex counsleors that state the AMOP system, and how employees are trained to lie, so I am no longer dealing with this college. If you are indeed an honest employee, I am glad to hear it, and I just hope and pray your paycheck is never stolen like my money has been.

I am disappointed to read of yet another Axia and /or u of p student who has had difficulty with their financial aid simply jump to the conclusion that we are "a Joke, a Thief, Rip Off, Con Artist." I am sorry about your difficulty in obtaining a satisfactory response, but agree with the previous posting that if you persevere, resist the temptation to jump to conclusions, and simply understand that in any large organization there is bound to be multiple layers of misunderstanding, particularly about a subject as complex as financial aid. But it is not valid to simply assume because you and others have had unfortunate experiences and have gotten unsatisfactory responses that the entire place (and presumable all who work there - including me- are thieves liars con artists, etc. we are not trying to rip anyone off or hide anything. there are just people who work here who don't understand things as thoroughly as they should.
