Shipping in Hartford has always been bad in terms of long delivery times.
My latest experience was simply outrageous. I had ordered a package which shipped ground. I was having it delivered to a Hartford address I was staying out for work. It came right before the Memorial Day weekend so of course I wasn't there. Rather than just simply leaving the package on the large semi secure porch or by the back door the driver decide to leave a note and take the package to a "UPS Access Point Locations" which was a convience store located miles from the location I would want for pickup. I'm registered with UPS so I could have for example had them deliver to an office building in Hartford if they wanted a more secure location. The note didn't specify who the package was from, what was in it...
So I finally have an opportunity to pick the package up. Including the holiday and the fact I didn't get the note for several days about a week has passed. When I go to the access point I discover that earlier that day they had picked the package up. So I contact them via phone and they are snotty and rude. They refuse to help or deliver the package. They can't intercept a return. They won't tell me who the package is from while telling me I need to work with the shipper to resolve the issue after the return.
I finally do figure it out and am shocked to discover that they returned it "unwanted" rather than "we are too lazy to deliver". The shipper I think is going to eat the cost but they certainly were ripped off and I wasted a ton of time on this.
UPS is trying to play themselves as a logistics company and add advanced services. I've done corporate logistics and the service expectations are well beyond what a retail shipper has to do. They are terrible at the basics and treat their customers badly.
