I have a car loan through US Bank; I have had this loan since Sept 08. I bank with Chase and make my payments online with my chase checking information through US Bank.com. Every payment I have made through their web service has had a number of problems. My first payment was reversed I called their local customer service line and was told it was an error and told to pay again, so I did and that went through fine. The second payment was billed twice and then reversed twice, again called and was told to make another payment online, and that was fine. Only this time they tried to sell me on opening a US Bank checking account so I could avoid this hassle, I am very happy with Chase and didn't like that fact that I was being bullied into opening a new account I don't want. The third payment again went through twice and this time I was billed twice, I want to pay the car off early so I left it alone. However when I called, I was told I must be submitting the payment twice. I am not a computer expert, but I am savvy enough to know not to submit a payment twice, I make almost all my other bill payments online and never have this level of hassle. For my current payment I used a different web browser (I use IE 8, but for this payment I used Firefox), again went through twice, and I called again. This time I was told that this is a unique issue to me and they are "working on it". And they will send me a check for the overpayment in 2 business days. However I have read posts on this site with people with the same problems with US bank. I am becoming quite frustrated with this song and dance that I have to go through every month just to give them money. I feel like they are using their terrible web service as a ploy to get me to open a US Bank checking account, and all I want to do is make payments on a car loan on time.

I actually use USB's online bill payment service; I really don't have any major complaints. I did run into a situation once where my payment wasn't going through to Washington Mutual for some reason. I ended up paying with a normal check just to get the check to the creditor. When I inquired with USB and WAMU, neither one could figure it out. I tried again after a few months and it seemed to work. They said that sometime's it's just a mystery. Computers; sometime's they mess up. I don't think USB is trying some sneaky tactic to get you to open up a checking account with them. Intentionally misprocessing payments is beyond illegal.
