On Jan 15 05 I purchased what I thought was a 20 x 30 foot metal building. Salesman Bob said this was an easy order and should have the product delivered in a month or so. I was sent what appeared to be a standard contract with the fine print. I noticed the "no-refund" and "we deliver when we can" clauses but thought I would not have to worry about the fine print because salesman bob assured me that everything was okay and all I had to do was sign the contract and they would ship in a month or so. I signed it, paid them $1500 deposit for a $4000 metal building.
After receiving the the certified blue prints I went to our county planning dept. for the permits. They said anchor bolts where wrong, no specs on foundation etc. and they would not approve because to much detail was missing from the blue prints. Contacted US BUILDINGS rep "Frank", and he sent out the updated blue prints. After 3 return visits to planning they said they also now needed structural calcs. Called the rep he said it would cost me another $850, I had no choice as they would not let me back out of the contract, I paid more money.
I then contacted the shipping manager to get a delivery date. She said "not till March" and then asked "do you have a 2 or 3 ton forklift?" I said "no", "you will need one to unload the truck when it delivers". Oh, I said. Another $350 for a one hour forklift rental, I will have to pay more money.
Delivery was scheduled for late march-05. I still had no approved plans nor did I know if I could get approval. So I postponed the delivery until I had an approved permit. Late april I was sent the new plans and structural calcs, finally I could get he project going. The county planning people looked at the new drawings and calcs and said they were engineered with the WRONG international building code(2000) and they could not look at or approve the new drawings. I contacted "frank" who sent me to my new forth contact person at US Buildings, "Ryan". He said I would be sent the new plans shortly and he was very sorry for the problem.
Today Aug. 1-05, almost 8 months after the sale they don't return my phone calls, no new plans, no building, no delivery date. I do have a set of useless blue prints that cost me $2500 or so and a metal building debtl for $6700.
US BUILDINGS and other "middle men" who operate between the steel manufacture and the end customer do not have the right to rip me off, they do nothing but push paper for a profit. Beware don't be taking by their "We have an overstock of your building and do we have a deal for you. Eight months later they say they still have an overstock of my size building, the overstock is probably my building.
Dear Steve, I've been ripped off by US Buildings also. My last resort is to go to small clames court in DC. I like to get more info how you were treated. David London
