USA Magazine Exchange Gift Ripoff
In January, I received a call from USA Magazine Exchange offering me a gold watch if I subscribe to seven magazines for the price of $58.24 for the year. I accepted the offer. On January 29th, 2002, I received a letter from them stating that my payment plan was 12 monthly payment of $58.24 for a total of $698.00. I immediately realized that there was a miscommunicating, and called the company to tell them to cancel the order. I was never told in any of my verbal conversations with them, that the account could not be cancelled. I called to cancel because I am a student, and I do not have a full time job, nor the resources to pay the $698.00. I took immediate action before my account got charged. I am writing to you because I feel that I almost got ripped off. I told them that I did not sign any agreement with them, but they told me that the three phone calls were recorded, and that it becomes a legal agreement.
