Last summer, we noticed a higher than usual water bill and power bill, my husband looked under the house and saw that a hot water line had burst and was spraying the subfloor, joists and rafters. The pipe was located ABOVE the insulation and it was in August, so hot weather and a damp crawl space escalated the mold and rot of the particle board subfloor.

USAA sent out a appraiser and then denied the claim, said it was an ongoing issue that was within "weeks, months, years" and thus they were not required to cover any of the damage. I could not get an explanation of exactly "weeks, months, years" entailed, whether it was 12 weeks, or 8 months or 3 years? I was told I needed to check under my house more often! I said how often do you check under your house? We look several times a year, and with the increase in the power and water bill triggered us that something had happened between then and the last billing cycle.

I should have been covered. We had been a customer with them for over 20 years, we immediately found another company and terminated our policies with them.

It has now been over a year, we have not been able to come up with the funds to repair the floor (approx 15k) and now we have black and white mold, stay consistently sick and the floor by the couch is starting to sink in. I don't know what to do. I have tried to dispute the claim as they say you can, but they will not allow a dispute. I am so heartbroken and disgusted with USAA, and I don't what I can do.

Please, avoid this company like the plague, their commercials lie, I have to change the radio station every time I hear one of their commercials. I don't know where to turn.

Hi, 1) Try to hire a "Public Adjuster”; they work for you, the consumer. They get paid if you get paid by insurance company. Same thing happened to me but in MASS. Also, Write a Complaint (On-Line) with:

2) Office of Attorney General’s Office in Your state.

3) Office of Attorney General Insurance Department

4) Write USAA a certified letter demanding they break down the cause of their denial. I did, but they just retaliated by non-renewing me. Next I’ll be writing My Senator’s Office... just keep going... Watch your statute of limitations on a claim.. do it before the deadline.. Keep the Faith.. T
