My dad last year fell into the lake, by accident with his cell phone in his pocket still. Didn't work at first, but I took it apart and dried the whole thing out for about 24 hours and it worked fine after that.

verizon wireless uses 2 different types of watermarks that will show water damage, one of them is solid white and the other one is white with pink or purple lines on it. when a phone has water damage the dot will turn red or dark pink.most orf the batterys they use do not have a watermark on them, sometimes the phone will not work due to software issues you might take it back into the store and ask them to update the PRL and see if that helps. If not then demand a new phone.

I just had the same problem happen to me today and just posted a complaint dated 8/8/06. In my opinion, Verizon is definitely doing something wrong here as my phone definitely did not have any water damage but that dot was pink.

IT is not just Verizon, but every cell phone company that uses the infamous red dot. IT is basically a piece of litmus paper. IT can be set off by almost any type of liquid. Excessive sweat can do it, some customers would even say that strong humidity could do it. While the dot may change color, the phone may still work. For example, my friend actually jumped into a pool with his phone in his pocket. Once the phone dried out, it still worked fine. In terms of troubleshooting a phone, the first thing any wireless provided is going to do or ask you to do is to powercycle the phone. Like a computer, they do need to be reset every once in a while.

I dropped our Cingular LG phone and it stopped responding. I took it to Cingular, and the young ladey removed the battery and then reinstalled the battery. Then she called it with her own cellphone and it worked just fine. She called this proceedure "rebooting" the phone, same as you must do with your PC from time to time to clear its cobwebs.
