From the limited info you have provided...it would seem you may be the victim of identity theft. Have you been able to ascertain the NAME of the person who opened the account in your name?
Are you receiving bills from Verizon for the service, and are the bills you receive in YOUR own name? Here are a couple of suggestions:
1. Log on to "My Verizon" at http://verizon.com/ (or register there).
2. Check to see just how many accounts are actually listed in YOUR name.
3. If, in fact, the unauthorized account is in your name, you should immediately CLOSE it. (You may also wish to check to see WHO is listed as an account manager on the account).
4 Send a CERTIFIED LETTER with a return receipt request to Verizon's Consumer Relations Department, detailing your problem. Be sure to include all dates and times you contacted Verizon representatives and the responses you received. Include copies of all pertinent documentation.
5. In your closing paragraph, state specifically the remedy you are seeking to this problem.
Be as cordial/congenial as possible, avoiding the use of foul or threatening language. Lastly, review the suggestions provided here on the ROR website for dealing with situations such as yours. You may also wish to file a report with the Better Business Bureau as well.
I would strongly suggest you obtain copies of all 3 of your credit reports to check for unauthorized activity. The only absolute way to prevent someone (who has stolen your identity) from opening credit cards, obtaining loans, etc in your name is to place a freeze on your credit. Credit fraud-reporting services only alert you AFTER suspicious activity has occurred & as such,...is useless in preventing a recurrence of what you have experienced.
