Verizon DOES NOT REIMBURSE THEIR BILLING ERRORS WARRENDALE, Pennsylvania
In April 2009, my son left my verizon account to join his new wife at T-Mobile. This caused an error in billing (I was told it "orphaned my account" & those of my other two children; even though I was the main number & contract holder).
As soon as I received the erroneous $176.83 bill I contacted verizon; as I had automatic payment withdrawal from my checking. I was told they would correct the error & send me a $0 balance statement. I then told verizon that I would not renew my contract with them. I was assured that the account was closed.
Imagine my surprise when they went ahead & withdrew the money from my "closed" account causing me to accrue $210.00 in bounced check fees. I contacted verizon, who apologized, & asked me fax my bank statement showing their error. I immediately faxed the info. They said I'd receive the refund of the $176.83 + the $210.00 within 30 days.
Well, 17 months later ( hundreds of minutes on the phone & repeated faxing of the bank statement), no refund. I was told at least 40 times that the "check was in the mail". Last November I even contacted the Better Business Bureau. I received a cc of a letter that verizon wrote to the BBB stating "In an effort to resolve the...concern, I filed a treasury request for the release of the ...credit balance to the account and a refund check sent to ..."
I never received any of the money they illegally took from me. Last August during one of the many calls I made to verizon, one of the reps told me the access to my checking was still unclosed!! She was really shocked...I wasn't.
Apparently verizon does not correct or follow up on their billing errors.
