Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
My cat Azzy was having a hard time breathing so we took her to the emergency pet hospital and they put her in an oxygen machine and told us to take her to our regular vet to get medicine. They said she more than likely has asthma. As soon as we get out of the emergency vet we take her to 'Vet Pets' and they put her on oxygen. Hours later they send her home saying she is doing fine. I get her home and she can't breath. I bring her back up the 'Vet Pets' and they tell me they have to run the tests or there is no other way to find out what's wrong ( even though the emergency vet told Vet Pets that is was most likely asthma ). We pay the money for more tests and the vet tells me they are still unsure of what is wrong and that it might be cancer and they need to run an ultra sound. I start to get the feeling that they are taking me for all I'm worth so I decided to get a second opinion. Turns out she did have asthma and because she wasn't treated in time ( Thanks to Vet Pets ) she was in a horrible state of health.

Vet Pets realized that we would do anything we could to save our beloved kitty and they took advantage of that. People like the doctor who took advantage of us should not be allowed to practice on animals. He put making money off of us above helping my kitty.

If Azzy was treated properly...

First, I tried to contact the doctor that handled Azzy and he was not in the office so I was told he would call back. As far as I know no one tried to contact me back. Dr. Hannon was Azzy's regular vet, and we never had a problem with him. He did great with Azzy, however the doctor who treated her in November apparently did not know what he was doing. When Vet Pets gave us Azzy to take home they told us she would be fine. After only minutes of having her home she started to have a hard time breathing again, so I brought her back to Vet Pets. This is when the doctor who handled Azzy told us we would need to do more tests to determine what was wrong with her. I was fine with the tests, if it wasn't Asthma and he felt that she needed more tests, then I wanted them done. After he ran more tests on her he told me that it was possibly pancreatic Cancer and he wanted to give her an ultra sound to make sure ( which would have cost us an additional $700.00+ ). I asked him what he thought we should do if it was indeed Cancer, and he told me that we would more then likely need to put her down. This is when I decided to definitely get a second opinion before proceeding with these tests because I truly did not feel like her massive breathing problems were a symptom of Pancreatic Cancer. Per my request, Vet Pets faxed over all of Azzy's records to another local vet where they diagnosed Azzy within an hour. The second vet also told us that if Azzy had been treated sooner for Asthma, her condition would not have been as bad as it was. The second vet also said that Azzy needed liquid injections very badly, which Vet Pets neglected to give her. Now that Azzy is prescribed Asthma medicine she is doing much better. So this proves that Azzy was not treated properly. Either the doctor who handled her tried to persuade us into purchasing more unnecessary tests, or he truly did not know how to diagnose her correctly. And if that was the case he should of had Dr. Hannon look at her. Again, our problem is not with Dr. Hannon. He's always been a good doctor, and has treated our family of cats properly. But because of this series of events with the doctor that actually treated our cat, we will not be doing business with Vet Pets from now on. Lindsey, Cordova, TN

Vet Pets Treated This Cat Properly

First, I would like to say that I am surprised to find this slanderous statement online today, especially since the cat was treated in November 2007. It is a shame that this person felt obligated to do so instead of contacting us directly to resolve this matter. My name is Dr. David Hannon, DVM and I am the owner of Vet Pets Animal Hospital. I am not the veterinarian that treated the cat in question, however I have evaluated the medical records and I found that the diagnostic work-up was thorough and the prescribed treatment was appropriate for this patient. Due to doctor-client-patient confidentiality laws that govern veterinarians, I am not allowed to disclose details about this case in a public forum without the owner's consent. However, since the owner already disclosed that the cat was diagnosed asthmatic, I can state that asthma was listed on our list of diagnostic possibilities, and the cat was also treated for this condition. The cat was stable and not in respiratory distress when discharged, and this was noted in the patient's file. When the cat did not respond rapidly to the prescribe treatment, referral to a nearby specialist was recommended. However, the owner elected to take the cat to another general practitioner instead of the recommended specialist. This owner also received estimates for the cost of diagnostics and treatments prior to them being performed, all of which were authorized by her. I understand the emotional aspect of an owner losing a member of her family. I also understand that neither the owner of the patient nor the operator of this website are veterinarians and therefore make assumptions that may be based more on emotions than medical judgment. I have built my practice on providing the best care for my patients. I stand by that quality of care and welcome direct feedback from clients when they have questions or concerns about their pets. The treatment for this patient took place in November of 2007 yet the owner has not contacted my office to voice any concerns or displeasure to date. I would assert that this is an issue that would be best handled by the Tennessee Board of Veterinary Examiners. I am confident in the quality of care we gave this patient and are giving to any and all patients and I am requesting that this report be removed from this website for this reason.
