I recently purchased an 8 week Doberman puppy from Victoria Mitchell. The dog appeared to be in good shape when I picked him up, but within a matter of 4-5 hours developed a severe neurological infection (the vet believes it to be distemper). The dog also was very anemic due to the extreme case of hookworms he had - as the bloodwork we had run showed. The neurological infection left him incontinent, destroyed his gross motor skills, and after a period of 3 days we had to make the decision to euthanize him as the distemper would have likely killed him, if not left him severely incapable of functioning/moving. It was a tragic disaster and we were very upset that we had to euthanize our new family member. I contacted Victoria Mitchelle and she said she was unable to refund me, however she had another litter due in a few weeks, and that I could have another male from that litter. I have contacted her since our conversation (all via text message, I have images of all the messages), and she will not respond to any of my attempts to contact her, it has been several days. I am out of pocket over $500 for the price of the dog, plus all associated vet fees, and I hope someone reads this so THEY DON'T GET SCREWED OVER BY AN UNETHICAL, LYING BREEDER! Also, the dogs are most likely housed in extremely poor conditions as our puppy had a severe case of hookworks! BREEDER INFORMATION:

I’ve known about this report for years... but didn’t feel the need to defend myself for something that did not have anything to do with me. First of all the puppy of which she spoke of, she purchased from my father Roy mitchell, NOT ME. Yes I was the registered breeder on the papers.

That’s how my name was involved. That particular puppy was adopted to a family in Eldorado. Somehow my father ended up buying the puppy from them. Which in turn due to his health sold the puppy to these people. She had contacted me telling me the puppy wasn’t right after telling my father they loved the puppy.

I told her I did not sell her the puppy but since I was the breeder I did try to ask questions. She stated they did not know what was wrong with the puppy they were just going to put the puppy down. She never provided a vet statement or even gave a vet name to confirm any of this.

My father told her to return the puppy if he was so sick so he could have the puppy seen by his vet and She refused and told him she’s just having him euthanized. As anyone could imagine it seemed suspicious she wouldn’t return the puppy.... wouldn’t let either of us speak to a vet or see any vet papers.

None of the other puppies from that litter or other litters in my care ever got sick and my puppies always were adopted with health guarantees. I did try to smooth it over with her as she was going off on me for a transaction I had nothing to do with and I told her that several times, but did offer to replace the puppy if she could provide vet records.

She refused to provide them. It almost seemed like a scam. If you just bought a sick puppy from my father, why not produce records? Why not return the puppy? Why choose to euthanize the puppy instead of returning the puppy?

Even if I did sell her the puppy which i did not, she would have had to produce vet statements to prove what she alleged or return the puppy. Not just say we aren’t returning the puppy, we are having the puppy euthanized and refuse records that prove what she claimed.

This was many many years ago... I have lots of references from past puppy buyers. Vet statements can prove I never had any ill or sick animals. I was NOT that type or breeder. The puppy very well could have had hookworms. That’s a common preventive care issue all puppies have.

That’s why all puppies have a strict deworming schedule that breeders and pet owners abide by. If the puppy was not continued to be dewormed in his home that very well could have been factual. As a breeder I am responsible for my puppies I produce to a point.

If and that’s a BIG if the puppy did have distemper. That’s a contagious disease that has nothing to do with me as a breeder. My guarantee handles any congenital issues. Her issue is with who sold her the puppy, the outcome might have been different if she would have returned the puppy and/or provided records. It can’t be one sided.
