This report is on a COWARD named John Hanson. I had been having problems with him for roughly 2 months. I promised him payment upon receipt of a confirmation saying that if I payed the amount, the settlement would be over. He was very hesitant. I began to get angry and he laughed saying that I should have been responsible for my actions and that now I will pay the price. As if someone died and made him God to decide what MY price is.

He continued to call me numerous times during the day at all of my listed phone numbers. He even was calling me at work. The funny thing was that I sent in $2000 the week prior, which left $1000 on the balance, but that wasn't enough for him to leave me alone for a bit, he continued to harass me saying "That amount Ma'am just isn't good enough" EXCUSE ME!! That amount seems mighty fair to me. I asked him nicely to not call me at my work saying that I know it is my right to have calls stopped when it is an inconvient time and place. He continued to laugh telling me he has the right to call me as many times as he wants a day at whatever phone numbers he has listed. This is true until I tell him its an inconvenient location, and I didn't ask him to stop calling me all together but to stop calling my work. This guy did everything in his power to make me feel inferior.

I went on to tell this weak insecure person just what I thought of someone who has to hide behind a telephone and try to strong arm people into paying more than they can. As I said above I had already given an obscene amount of money yet that wasn't good enough for him.

I found out that these people are getting paid on commission. When I mentioned that he asked if I thought it was that important to him to collect a measily amount of money off of me. Honestly John Hanson...it must be, otherwise you wouldn't be so rude and obnoxious about it. One reason he was upset is because instead of letting him take my money I contacted Capital One directly and did a balance transfer to pay the $2000. Therefore he didn't get any commission on the account. He asked me if I thought I was smart and had outwitted him. No I didn't think that but obviously he did. I opted to pay the rest of the amount again through Capital One. He was extremely upset. I now have the balance paid and yet again just recently...I recieved 2 calls at home, 2 on my cell, and 2 at work. That to me is a little bit too much, especially since the balance is $0.

The messages entailed a very rude voice on the other end of the line saying... "This is John Hanson and it is VERY important that I get a return call from you regarding a past due account (it is not his place to say anything about the account VIA phone)" Another thing, if he was actually doing his job he would know that the account is paid for. Its even been chanced to "Paid" on my credit report...HELLOOO!! Just another example of Viking Corp trying to weasel money out of people. Great job guys...how do you sleep at night and are you really able to look at yourself in the mirror knowing you are weaseling, harassing, weak, and insecure scum with nothing better to do than try to over power people?

The part of the story that I would like to include is that I was in a severe car accident where I ended up having surgery. I was out of work for 3 weeks and obviously that means no paycheck. John Hanson felt it necessary to tell me how to run my life and tell me that Credit Card debt is more of a priority than taking care of my body in any way necessary. His suggestion...paying my debt before I opted for surgery. I should live with the pain because that payment is more important than my health. I give a big F U to John Hanson and any other debt collector who thinks that my priority would be a credit card over my immediate health. It would be different if it was something I had been dealing with for awhile, but instead it was because of a car accident. Its not as if I asked for that to happen.

He threatened to call my parents, my fiance', and told me if I avoided his calls at work he would contact my boss and have him make me take the call (remember the balance is already paid). I feel as though this is against the law and also my rights as a US citizen. I am a 25 year old woman. I have lived on my own for 8 years and had a mishap with a credit card. I worked my butt off to get it paid and the appreciation I get is harassing phone calls when the balance is $0. What a way to run a business!

A note to all who are offered a settlement through Viking...do not give out info, do not accept harassing phone calls, pay the debt through the original company by doing balance transfers. Keep any information and confirmation numbers in case a lawsuit arises. I can't believe that there are people out there who are basically looking for blood. I hope you all can avoid what I had to go through.

My rant is over, sorry its so long and drawn out. I had alot to say I guess.

You bottomfeeders blow everything out of context as usual THE OP WAS complaining about being harrassed by a collection agency goon who was violating FDCPA laws on an already paid account. YOU CANNOT BREAK THE LAWS AND THE OP CAN SUE FOR HARRASSMENT. The reason why you work for a collection agency is because you cannot hold any other job. Go jump off a building yourself

I would include each and every reponse posted here by the "Viking Collector". This will not only show that Viking hires people that can't find jobs elsewhere, it will also show that Viking collectors have no clue. Please be sure to file complaints with your AG and the AG in the state where Viking's corporate office is located.

First let me say I am a employee at Viking collections in AZ and I want to respond to all these reports these whiners have wrote on here. First of all anytime you get information look at the source its coming from. In this case these people are all losers that are in collections and whining cause they didn't like how the bill collector treated them. Well here's an idea Einstein...pay your bills when your suppose to and you wont have to deal with bill collectors. Before an account even gets to our office you have to ignore the original creditor for 6months without any kind of payment. So for everyone on here with the "oh poor me" attitude get over it and maybe own up to your responsibilities and then you wont ever be in collections. Also were not customer service...you had your chance with customer service and you blew them off for 6 months so we don't need to kiss your a*s and rub your belly so your happy with the call. Your a loser and sometimes you need to be reminded of that. And don't blame the economy for you defaulted on your loan or credit card because were all in the same economy but there are still people that are responsible and pay their bills like they agreed to. If you don't make enough money then get a second job. Maybe if you took the time you sat on your a*s and cried about how bad life is and got another job you wouldn't be so broke. I live in the same economy as you all and i still pay every single won of my bills. Now why can I do it and you cant? Cause I'm not a loser and I own up to what I agreed to and if it came to where I couldn't support my family I would do something about it instead of getting on a website and complaining. So in conclusion if you don't want to deal with a bill collector then pay your bills..if you cant pay your bills then do something about that situation. But there are always going to be you whiners that would rather get on a website and cry so everyone knows your not happy about how you were treated. Well my advice to you is this...if you feel like we treated you like a loser that's because we think your a loser and we treat all you accordingly. So go find a really high building and go skydiving but leave the parachute behind. Oh and one more thing for you people who want to say were the losers cause we do collections and we must not make very much money. I make a whole bunch of money so don't worry about that. Actually it would make you sick how much we make cause the world is full of belly rubbing whining babies and the job security is wonderful. And your the one getting collection calls cause you cant pay your bills. I can pay mine..so who is the loser here? Yes that's correct its you.

Pay Capital One if they will let you

I did a balance transfer. I used a Chase Visa and they gave me a number that I could call to contact Capital One directly. I had 0% interest for 6 months on balance transfers through Chase. It only took me about a month and a half to pay that off because there was no interest. Plus it was only a portion of the debt. Thanks so much for the info. I don't think I will take a drastic action towards this man, but I am looking into my option to get this man in trouble with the state. He is too much of a jerk to let him go. Plus I NEVER would want someone else to go through what I have dealt with. Thanks again

I can Call Capital One Directly & pay this?

Hi I saw that you called capital one directly & paid the amnt due. I didn't realize you can do this. If I did this would there be any debt owed to Viking? I would rather do it this way..I just filed my own report a few minutes ago.

Liz, The following is cut and pasted from the MN Dept. of Commerce's web site: Licensee Name: VIKING COLLECTION SERVICE INC (DBA: VIKING BILLING SERVICE ) Licensee Address: 7500 OFFICE RIDGE CENTER , STE 100 City State Zip: EDEN PRAIRIE , MN 553440000 License Number: 8000075 License Type: Collection Agency License Status: ACTIVE License Effective Date: Jun 9, 1989 License Expiration/Renewal Date: Jun 30, 2007 Enforcement Action: Yes. This individual or company has at one time had formal administrative action taken against one or more Commerce-issued license. For further information please contact Commerce Investigation Unit at 651-296-2488 or 1-800-657-3602 (phone hours 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM CST). Call the number above and ask the MN Dept. of Commerce why they fined this company and then let them know what this John Hanson is doing to you. Then make sure you file complaints with your attorney general's office as well as the MN dept. of commerce and MN attorney general's office. Then, if this jerk still attempts to get you to pay on a debt that you don't owe, sue him personally as well as the company. Here is John Hanson's personal information as listed on the MN Dept. of Commerce's web site: John Hanson's Home address: 16830 Embers Ave. Farmington, MN 55024 License #20359276 (collector's license) John's home phone number is 651-322-4160 (it's listed on qwestdex.com with the same address as listed for John Hanson under the MN Dept. of Commerce). Another thing you could do is give him a call at home one evening and tell him that for every time he calls you at your home, work, or cell phone you will reciprocate with a call to his home and that you will speak with his family (just as he threatened to do to you) and tell them what he does to you every day. I really don't understand why a collector would ever have a publicly listed phone number. Their home address is of public record through whatever agency they are licensed with so to list their phone number is really stupid.
