Vinyl Max Ripoff Sold Us a Defective Window Cincinnati Ohio
I bought a Vinyl Max bow window from a local window store. But, what I got is not what I ordered.
1: The window is mostly vinyl. There is very little window to the window. Our contractor said this window would reduce the amount of light into our home by about 60%.
2: We ordered the window to have every 4 windows to open. Only 2 of them open on the window we received.
3: There is a crack at the top of the window. We didn't complaint at first about this, because we thought we could use trim to cover it up. But, our contractor said it would still leak.

Problem #1: The window has too much vinyl and not enough glass. In fact, the actual windows are very narrow. Our contractor said if we put the window in, it would decrease the amount of sunlight coming into our living room by about 60%! Vinyl Max says they are not liable for this, since it is a custom made window. But, Siding World should have told us there would not be much window to it. Window companies are supposed to be the window experts. That's why we go to them for window sales. If a window isn't going to be like most windows, you would think they would tell you. Problem #2: When we ordered the window, the Siding World employee asked us if we wanted all four of the windows to open. We replied that we did. We just noticed yesterday that the two inner windows do not open like they are supposed to! Problem #3: The top of the bow window is cracked. We knew this when we got it from Siding World, but figured that wouldn't make a difference on the installation. We figured we would just put trim around it. Our window installer came on 8-25-05 to install the new window we bought from a different company. He looked at the Siding World/Vinyl Max window and said he wouldn't have been able to install the window anyway with the crack. He said the window would leak. Siding World's Offer: After weeks of deliberation, Siding World, where the window was ordered from, decided they are going to credit us for 80% of the cost. However, since the window is not at all what we ordered plus has a defect, I don't see how we should have to pay for any of it. I am still asking for a full refund from Siding World, because we shouldn't have to pay for something that is not what we ordered plus has bad workmanship. Complaints have been filed with the state but Vinyl Max/Siding World will not provide a 100% refund. Vinyl Max's latest response: "there appears to be no justification for the return.."
