After working for V. L. Watkins Transportation for 12 years I took early retirement due to a health issue. Before leaving the company I gave Gregg a 2 week notice and had no issue with him or anyone else in the company concerning payroll.
Having been in the trucking industry most of my adult life, I found V. L. Watkins and Gregg Hibbits to be the best company I ever worked for. With most companies there is usually a problem with dispatchers feeding you a line of bull, telling untruths and generally giving drivers a hard time. I must say this never happened with either the outbound or inbound dispatchers. Sometimes I had to lay over to pick up a return load, but in this industry it will happen from time to time and can't be avoided.
I think the biggest problem was unpaid deadhead miles, which at times were excessive. Since I was paid on percentage there was no pay for these miles and at times ran 600-700 miles.
During those 12 years with Gregg and V.L.Watkins I never had an issue with payroll. It was always on time and paid correctly. When I needed time off or requested runs to specific destinations my request was almost always granted. There were times, of course, when runs were not available to the places I requested, but that was to be expected.
Personally, Gregg and all of his staff was friendly, outgoing and truthful. I would have stayed with him until full retirement age if it had not been for my health.
I believe the problem this driver had resulted from his failure to provide the required 2 week notice. Since the company makes no money when a truck sits, it needs time to find a replacement for the driver who is quitting and 2 weeks notice is quite fair and reasonable.
