Wachovia had posted an on-line payment to my account as payed on the 15th of the month. When they deducted the amount it was not until the 22d which had put me in a negative balance. I was charged $70 for overdraft fees. It is my opinion that this is a common method they use to scalp customers. Why would they post it as payed on "Bills" and not deduct it for a week. I am a senior citizen and I look at my balance going by the balance available. A bona fide rip off

I felt the need to defend Wachovia as I have been a customer of theirs for many years. I too am a senior citizen and LOVE Wachovia. They have the BEST customer service support (polite, friendly and patient)of ANY company I have ever known. I have had minor problems with my account and each time I call, my concerns have been fully explained and corrected to my satisfaction. I too use online bill pay with Wachovia but before I signed up, I called, asked questions and READ. Online Bill pay is wonderful with Wachovia. I immediately schedule payments for my bills when received and am able to check my outstanding payments through their system. If you have automatic withdrawals, you must make sure you account for them too and add the amounts to your online bill pay total. If you authorize a check payment, the amount is not deducted until the check is cashed not the date you scheduled the payment. Perhaps you should call Wachovia and get a complete understanding of how online bill pay works and READ, READ, READ

For young people, I expect this sort of idiocy you practice. For a senior, there is absolutely no excuse. Stop using a debit card since you don't understand how it's to be properly used, keep a check register so you don't have to rely on an online balance to tell you what you have, and stick to cash and checks. Anyone who tells you otherwise is not acting in your best interest.

Today's financial dynamics can be daunting at times for seniors. Perhaps senior assistance from the bank might go a long way. A suggestion to use only cash seems to me to be an extremely uncaring and harsh alternative; one, which I would want to avoid if the problem involved an older parent or even myself (also a senior). Being an "elder at risk" overs a wide range of problems.

So, you paid your bill on the 15th, but when it didn't deduct from your account on the 15th, you just went and spent the money??? You should only use cash and not have a bank account.

It will showed paid with the online bill pay section when the check is printed and mailed out (equivilent to you writting the check and mailing it). It will post from your account when the company receives it, deposits it into their account and their bank sends it to Wachovia. It should be written/subtracted from your register when you authorize the payment so that you remember to leave the money in your account for it to clear.
