More you should know about Wafflehouse

#2UPDATE Employee

Wed, August 04, 2004

I have worked at Wafflehouse for 6 months now and i can relate to alot of what Ronald is saying. Most people dont know that the people serving you make less than three dollars an hour and rely mainly on tips for their money. Take out orders usually dont tip so people dont jump on them which is wrong. In the 6 months that I have been there,I have witnessed certian customers getting the special treatment. One customer that we have comes in everyday, and because he fought in 3 wars, he is served before anyone else. He leaves a generous tip and his order is easy to fix. The problem at the Wafflehouse where I am employed is poor management. Customers and employees complaints go unresolved. For example, an employee was fired for making a graphic sexual remark to customers. 4 months later, this employee has been rehired. On July 4th,she came in on her off day, and very drunk, jumped behind the counter and proceeded to start cooking, announcing that she was drunk and didnt need to be there. Several customers walked out. Another employee, admitted that he showed a part of his anatomy to a female employee, that was better left in his pants, while he was at work. He admitted that he stole from another employee, and also grabbed a female customer where he never should have gone in this first place. He is still employeed there and has been recommended for management. Many customers are looked over because of the "Regulars". It doesnt make it right, but it seems like that is Wafflehouse policy. In conclusion, its all about the dollar! If the server in question feels you wont tip good, you are left out and someone else is served before you.

As someone who does a lot of work with people from various parts of the country, and someone who hails from (unfortunately) one of the most segregated cities left in this country, I must say that I can't BELIEVE you just said that. I know many whites, blacks, asians, etc who don't have the best grammar in the world. Some, I can barely understand. What you need to realize, though, is the environment that some came from. In Good Ole Boy Country (where my dad is from) they PRETEND to be stupid. In some areas, the education or emphasis on grammar isn't as big of a deal as it is in, say, Wisconsin. Don't get me wrong .. poor grammar annoys the HELL outta me, but that doesn't always say the most about someone. Look at it this way ... I'm a walking dictionary, but I need a calculator to balance my checkbook. Does that mean that someone shouldn't wait on me because I may give them the wrong change? The fact that he has poor grammar has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the fact that these ignoramuses refused to wait on him. Shame on you!

Hey Ronald, I hope that this message finds you in good spirit and health. Say, I'm really sorry that this has happened to you. You should move out here to Hawaii. I'm not saying that racism does not occur out here, as I'm sure it does everywhere, but the probability of something like this happening out here in hawaii is very slim, for if a business even attempted to pull this $#it out here, they might as well plan to close there doors for good. Seriously, it would be detrimental and possibly even suicidal to that business. It is said that America is a melting pot. True, but Hawaii is the true melting pot, in that we are a gateway from asia to the continental U.S. and vice versa. We are also in the middle of the pacific ocean, where we once again serve as a gateway for many islands to the continental U.S. and vice versa. We come in every race, color, religion, creed, sizes and shapes imaginable. We learn to live in harmony, because we are aware of the fact, that we wouldn't be able to survive a day in civilization otherwise. We all depend on one another. It's called the Aloha spirit. It's really sad to slowly see it diminishing. You see, racism (hatred/evil) exists because of fear of a particular race, culture, color, religion, creed, etc, etc. Uneducated people hate others, for they often lack an understanding of the human race. Why do you think many of the hate mongers that live in such far away places, wish to be separated from the rest of the educated society? They're uneducated and a bunch of hypocrites. Why do these people even claim to have a religion? It make absolutely no sense. They preech love, while practicing hate. Well again, it comes down to poor education and a tremendous lack in understanding, that this world does not, never has, nor will it ever, revolve around one particular race, or religion. The beauty of it though, is that everyone has the freedom to be as dumb as they wish, but the one thing that hate mongers will never be able to accomplish, is impose their garbage into a functional and thinking society. And this truly defeats the purpose of hating others in the first place, because if and when these hateful people decide to appear in the civilized world, they usually end up kissing their boses a*s, who's probably an African American, White, Asian, Hispanic, Polynesian, etc, etc. The very person in which they hate. But hey, they're often too dumb to even realize this. Lastly, I'd like to say, the food was probably not worth it anyways. Until next time, take care Ronald and everyone else cause I care, Aloha from Hawaii and God Bless.

amen.. I am not the best speller. Yet, after reading your report, I feel like Albert Einstein. You obviously did not(or could not)read the "Please Do Not Use All Capital Letters" message, when writing this report. You spelled Would:-->as:-->Wood Counter:----->as :-->conter Anythin:-->ANYING (just to name a few) Your grammer proves what Bill Cosby has been saying all along. No wonder they did not wait on you, they thought you escaped from the Al Segal Center. Were you drooling and blowing bubbles out of your nose?? Who turned on the computer for you, so that you could type this dribble? Here is what Bill Cosby would say to you: More Smart Words from Bill Cosby July 1, 5:13 PM EST The Associated Press CHICAGO -- Bill Cosby went off on another meaningful tirade against the black community Thursday, telling a room full of activists that too many black men are beating their wives while their children run around not knowing how to read or write. Cosby made headlines in May when he upbraided some poor blacks for their grammar and accused them of squandering opportunities the civil rights movement gave them. He shot back Thursday, saying his detractors were trying in vain to hide the black community's "dirty laundry." "Let me tell you something, your dirty laundry gets out of school at 2:30 every day, it's cursing and calling each other nigger as they're walking up and down the street," Cosby said during an appearance at the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition & Citizenship Education Fund's annual conference. "They think they're hip," the entertainer said. (Story Continues Below...) "They can't read; they can't write. They're laughing and giggling, and they're going nowhere." He also had harsh words for black men who don't have jobs and are angry about their lives. "You've got to stop beating up your women because you can't find a job, because you didn't want to get an education and now you're (earning) minimum wage," Cosby said. "You should have thought more of yourself when you were in high school, when you had an opportunity." In his remarks in May at a commemoration of the anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education desegregation decision, Cosby denounced some blacks' grammar and said those who commit crimes and wind up behind bars "are not political prisoners." "I can't even talk the way these people talk, 'Why you ain't,' 'Where you is' ... and I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk," Cosby said then. "And then I heard the father talk ... Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth." Cosby elaborated Thursday on his previous comments in a talk interrupted several times by applause. He castigated some blacks, saying that they cannot simply blame whites for problems such as teen pregnancy and high school dropout rates. "For me there is a time ... when we have to turn the mirror around," he said. "Because for me it is almost analgesic to talk about what the white man is doing against us. And it keeps a person frozen in their seat, it keeps you frozen in your hole you're sitting in." Cosby lamented that the racial slurs once used by those who lynched blacks are now a favorite expression of black children. And he blamed parents. "When you put on a record and that record is yelling n----- and you've got your little 6-year-old, 7-year-old sitting in the back seat of the car, those children hear that," he said. Cosby appeared Thursday with the Rev. Jesse Jackson, founder and president of the education fund, who defended the entertainer's statements. "Bill is saying let's fight the right fight, let's level the playing field," Jackson said. "Drunk people can't do that. Illiterate people can't do that." Cosby also said many young people are failing to honor the sacrifices made by those who struggled and died during the civil rights movement. "Dogs, water hoses that tear the bark off trees, Emmett Till," he said, naming the black youth who was tortured and murdered in Mississippi in 1955, allegedly for whistling at a white woman. "And you're going to tell me you're going to drop out of school? You're going to tell me you're going to steal from a store?" Cosby also said he wasn't concerned that some whites took his comments and turned them "against our people." "Let them talk," he said.

It's Not Just You.......same sort of treatment, and I am white.

Ronald, I have been to that exact Waffle House (on Hwy 27/441) and experienced the same sort of treatment myself, and I am white. I think their problem there is more of a "familiarity" issue than race, per se. If they know you (or think they should), they take care of you quick; if not, you're left standing unattended, the recipient of many sideways glances from customers and employees alike. NOT a comfortable experience! Please try not to take it personally; there are a lot of other places in that area who welcome your business. Look at the bright side: You didn't look like "their kind of guy!" I'm sorry you felt uncomfortable in my neck of the woods; we Central Floridians LOVE our tourists! Come back soon.

Sad...It must be that you're non-white, then?

It must be that you're non-white, then? As a white folk, every time I hear something like this I just cringe. It's appalling to me that these things went on to the degree they did just decades ago... but it's UNBELIEVABLE to me that it STILL goes on in 2004! You know, I guess all you can do is hope that your message creates a pain in the a*s for them. I know I'm willing to make a phone call or drop a note. It's sad... and I'm truly sorry that you run the risk of experiencing that not just one day, but every day of your lives.
