We used the Wal-Mart MoneyCard for our tax return, after seeing on the IRS website that our return was deposited we waited two days to processes. When we seen that the return still has not shown up my wife called so see why. Come to find out they denied deposit due to the fact that my name was the first one on the card and my wife was the one to file out taxes. So even though they were the same names, it had to be a fraudulent deposit because the name are not in the same order. We talked to the IRS after WalMart and they said it can take up to six weeks to get a paper check after they receive the return back.

The rep. on the phone for WalMart MoneyCard said it will take up to two days for them to even send back the deposit. That was on the 19th, it is now the 25th and still they have not returned our deposit. Now when we have called to file another complaint they disconnect every time you can hear the phone be put in rotation to speak with a live rep. My wife tried to make contact with them six time I tryed four times myself before I gave up.

We are a family of five and we were lined up to put a deposit down for a house. Now we are going to lose the house we have had lined up. We are also having trouble with our landlord who we informed we were planing on moving. Now he has someone he planed to have move in by next month. We also put a $250 dollar deposit on a puppy for our children. The puppy will be ready in less then two weeks and i don't see the money coming through by then. We have already lost out on so much and to make matter worse, two of my children birthdays are in mid March. I am just praying that this wont wreck there day like it has done to so much already.

Do not use Walmart money card so far we have had a problem with identity theft with the card and it took over three month to resolve. Now this, I just no longer see this as a alternative to using a bank much less a better alternative.

That must have been some refund

So with this refund you were planning on putting a deposit down on a house.  But if that wasn't enough you were also going to get your kids a puppy and use that money to pay for their birthdays in a couple of weeks.  Really?  So I guess the all expenses paid trip to Europe is also out.

In all seriousness, the problem is actually one caused by you.  You were "Counting your chickens before they were hatched".  Yes it is unfortunate that Walmart rejected the refund due to the order, but there could have been many other reasons and you were relying that it would arrive by a certain date.  Would another bank have rejected the refund...it is impossible to tell.

But since it was rejected you are complaining that it will take the IRS 6 weeks to get a paper check issued once Walmart sends it back.  Okay that would be the same regardless of what bank rejected it because that is an IRS policy.  You then complain about how Walmart is holding onto your refund.  Again even if they returned it on the 19th, 6 weeks out would put you getting a paper check around the first week of April.

Now, with that said this is an example of you get what you pay for.  Believe it or not if you practice proper account management you will often find that a "real" bank may actually cost you the same or even less than these "Pre-Paid Debit Cards".   Not only that you get the added beneift of if you have a problem you can actually go and talk to a real person.  One other thing to think about, just how much are you getting refunded?  Remember this "refund" is YOUR money to begin with because you gave the IRS too much money during the year.  If your situation is fairly stable perhaps you can think about adjusting your withholdings to get more per paycheck.  Where at the end of the year you won't get this "windfall" but you could still mimic that by putting this extra per paycheck into a savings account and don't touch it during the year...with the added benefit of possibly earning at least some interest.
