While having a ham dinner on Easter Sunday the family was discussing what a great price we got at our local Wal-Mart. As we looked at the label it was noticed that it had been relabeled on the tag. We started to peel back the 4 layers of markdowns (rollbacks)we saw that the expiration date had been modified from FEB.25 to MARCH 27.

I immediately drove to the store and asked for the manager. The assistant Terry Mac offered to give me the sale price amount back but i felt that the public needed to know that they may have rancid pork in their refrigerators.

SInce Sunday I have uncovered 2 other parties with outdated hams.

I have hit brick walls on all sides. I contacted the corporate offices, Kay chemicals( the osha of wal-mart),the local papers, tv stations, Smithfield hams...since no one has died its a waste of time to "panic" the public over unsubstantuated claims.Yet no one will look at the FACTS. I have the tags showing the tampered dates.,and everyone that ive spoken with covers their eyes.

A couple of Decembers ago, Wal-Mart was taking orders for prime rib roasts. We put our name and phone number down on the list. I noticed a couple of other customers had put remarks next to their names like "I want a really nice one." We went back a couple weeks later, and asked about the roasts. The meat guy (I don't think he can even cut meat, or even knows the different cuts if they aren't already labeled) told us, "oh yeah, they're over in the display case there." They took orders, but did not hold them back, and did not call to tell us they were in. Sure, I could walk over and pick one up, and the list gave them an estimate of how many they needed, but what if some customer came that hadn't reserved one bought them and then there were none for those who reserved them? I was disgusted with their lack of professionalism and left with no roast. What a joke their meat department is. Their damned cuts are always predominantly grey. Their meat never lasts very long in your refrigerator if it is fresh. The way I understand their meat department is like this: A few years ago, some of their meat-cutters in Texas decided to unionize. Rather than accept it, Wal-Mart decided to get rid of in store meat-cutters all together and use only quick-to-rot pre-packaged meat. What a ripoff.

"The family was discussing what a great price we got at our local wal-mart". I can just see it now. We sure got over on them. Yeah it was a great price if you like rancid pork. I see those sell items in the meat counter AND I've seen the labels put over other labels. It isn't only on the ham. I always wondered who bought the beef turning green at the GREAT price. Now I know.
