I am on a prescription for the rest of my life and need to take a pill daily. I ordered my prescription from Walgreens and went to pick it up on 8/28/09. The pharmacist told me that they had five pills available but he would have the remainder (25) within a few days. I paid for the partial prescription and said I'd come back to pick up the rest.

I returned to the 24 hour drive-up on 9/5/09, at 8:50pm. The woman at the window informed me that there was no filled prescription for me. I was confused by this information and told her what had transpired on August 28th. She said that they didn't have the pills because the pills are "back ordered two months" and that the pharmacist should not have told me he would have them ready for me. I was completely stunned by this news.

At that point this woman showed no inclination to remedy the problem in any fashion. Absolutely none. I guess I was just supposed to drive away and get sick waiting for the back order to come in.

I had to prompt and instruct this person to call other Walgreens in the area, and also to call the CVS across the street to see if they might have the pills. She placed the calls as I asked and found a Walgreens that had the medicine in stock. She said the store was in Roselle and she'd transfer my prescription there.

I told her I'd pick them up immediately. It was only after I left that I realized she hadn't given me the full address. When I returned, she stated that the Walgreens was in Rahway, not Roselle. The store is 15 miles from my home!

I am completely appalled at the incompetence of this pharmacy and the apathy of this person who showed no concern about fixing the mistakes that were made until I raised the issue. At the very least, I'd like to know why I wasn't called at my home to tell me there was a problem filling the prescription! Needless to say, I'll not be back to Walgreens because my health depends upon finding a responsible pharmacy.

A quick check of Walgreens on this site will reveal that this is the norm for Walgreens these days.  After reading several of the reports, I must say that I will never set foot in a Walgreens, even though there are several locations within 15 minutes of my home.  I'll take CVS any day.  And, NO, I don't work for CVS !!

As a manager at a Walgreens, I apologize that you had a bad experience.  With hundreds of prescriptions filled daily at each store, an occasional employee forgets that it is the care of the PATIENT that needs to be our top priority.  The pharmacy technician should have taken the initiative to see that your needs are met, but failed to do so in your case.

A quick mapquest search revealed that there were 8 other Walgreens' closer than the Rahway store you were directed to.  It is unusual that there was not a Walgreens' within 15 miles that had the medication you needed in-stock, although it is not unheard of.  Typically, there is a primary supplier and a secondary supplier for most of the medications we dispense so far both to be backordered is odd indeed.

The Rahway/Roselle confusion is also disheartening.  Depending on the store and the surrounding traffic, sometimes communication through the drive-through window can be difficult.

If you do decide to trust us with your prescriptions again, I sincerely hope you have a better experience.
