Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I purchased a prepaid walmart moneycard, Visa. I was told to activate it and it would be ready for immediate use. It was 305.00 I needed to make purchase immediately. I spoke to activation personel the said the 305.00 was on the prepaid visa and it was ready to use.

My purchase was declined many times. I went on the internet and signed into the account, it let me create the account but said zero dollars was applied. Then each try after gave me invalid account information. I could reach no one on the phone. Where is my 305.00!!!!

I called walmart where I purchased the card and main headquarters and was offered 0, NO, resolution to the problem.

I lost over 1000.00 not being able to use the card.

Walmarts only resolution was to cancel the account and hope you get a paper check in 7-10 business days.

TOTAL RIP OFF!!!!!!!

You should look into what this person is saying. From what I understand about the report is that they loaded the card with 305 dollars. After all the gas wasted going back and forth to the places that she had to go to to use the service that she paid for (Yes, she paid for it alright), may have been 1000 dollars, give or take after it was all said and done.

I, personally, had an ongoing problem, and still am going through it. I loaded 160 dollars on to a Walmart Money Card and used on my first transaction, which was 30 dollars. I DID NOT GET THE SERVICE THAT I PAID FOR. I was not acknowledged that I was a member of the website that I paid 30 dollars for a membership for. So I call customer service to dispute it, and receive my funds back to my account. The lady I talked to was a foreign lady (as all of them are at Walmart Money Card) and When I got off the phone with her, she put down in the computer that I disputed that I DID NOT AUTHORIZE THE TRANSACTION, which was NOT what I said.

I did not use the card for another week. When I went to use it again, it was declined. Now keep in mind that I only spent 30 dollars so far. I should have had 130 dollars left on the account. I called customer service once again. They told me that my account was closed due to a dispute in the other party's favor. I was floored when they told me the actual reason for the dispute that they had entered into the computer. Well, I decided to just go on and see if I could open up another account. "NO, WE CANNOT LET YOU OPEN UP ANOTHER ACCOUNT WITH US", they said. They had to send me a check in the mail and I would receive it within 7-10 business days. On the tenth day, I received it, yet I could not cash it at any Wal-Mart because the numbers were too low for their check scanners to read it. I had to waste much gas to go to two Wal-marts two different days due to my hectic schedule. Days after I received the check, I was able to cash it at a bank that charged me 10% of my refund. What a RIP OFF!!!!!!!

There is a longer version that would make even the kindest soul to thrash the throat of the innocent. But I'm going to keep it short. Altogether, I think I have called about 9 times to try to resolve this, but to no avail. One call, I actually talked with a supervisor and she listened to the original dispute conversation that I made. She agreed that I did not say that I disputed the "authorization" to the transaction but I had disputed that I wanted a refund for "lack of services". But she could not fix the problem. So I asked to talk to her boss, which was a "manager". He could do anything to fix the problem. So what was I to do. I asked him to connect me with Corporate, which I finally talked with someone with a North American accent. He said that he was checking into it, but I still have yet to hear the phone ring to speak with this gentleman again. It's been 4 days since that call. He DID give me a number to the corporate office upon my request to call him back to see how far along he was to fixing the problem. If you want to verify that this number is a bunch of Bull, the number is 1-866-652-4611. It asks for a pin # right at the start. No other options. How am i supposed to know a pin number? I've tried 4 digit pins, 3 digit, 2, and I even pushed zero. Nothing worked. What am I to do? This is a Rip off. This business needs to be looked at by the better business bureau. Even with all I've told you so far, that is not the half of what I've been through with these people. I just don't have enough time to be messing with all of this.

My intention for the card is to give it to my 2 drivers and use for gas.  I got the black, WalMart MoneyCard Family (2nd card free).

I submitted online information, did not give my real Ss because there's no need.  They said that they are sending me a check back because they can't activate it.

On hold for 3 min. guy couldn't help, transfer me, 25 min. hold and still holding to either activate the d**n thing or I'm going to WalMart tomorrow to get my money back and eventually fess up another 300$ for a 500$ fleet card cards, but I prefer atm for oil changes, gas station (any station) and so on.. and fill it.

These pieces of dirt are no good for company use.. too bad.

The cards are NOT activated at the register. They SIMPLY ARE LOADED. THEN YOU GO HOME AN ACTIVATE THE CARD. PUTTING IN YOUR PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION. ONLY THEN WILL A PERMANANT CARD BE MAILED. ALSO THE REASON FOR PURCHASING THE CARD TO COMPLETE THERE TRANSACTION IS CLEAR, THEY MUST HAVE REQUIRED A CREDIT CARD TO MAKE THAT PURCHASE, ONE THAT COULD NOT BE DONE WITH CASH. I TOO AM DEALING WITH THIS HORRIBLE COMPANY AND TRUST ME THEY ARE THE BIGGEST RIPOFF OFFENDERS.I HOWEVER WILL NOT TOLERATE THIS AS I WILL HIRE AN ATTORNEY IF NEED BE, SO TO SAY MY AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT HAS BEEN BLOCKED IS FAR MORE THAN 300.00. THIS COMPANY NEEDS TO BE EXAMINED BY THE FTC AND FDIC. CONSUMERS DESERVE TO DEAL WITH HONEST COMPANIES. ALSO EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW THAT ONCE YOU HAVE. AN ACCOUNT ( card) YOU THEN CAN CALL AND GET A 2ND CARD ISSUED IN ANYONES NAME, ALL YOU NEED IS THERE FULL NAME AND BIRTHDATE. HOW SCARY IS THIS. APPARENTLY SOMEONE HAD A 2ND CARD ISSUED WITH MY NAME AND BIRTHDATE, AND BECAUSE OF THIS THEY HAVE PUT A SECURITY BLOCK ON MY CARD. I NEVER GAVE PERMISSION FOR THAT CARD TO BE SENT, THEY NEVER SPOKE WITH ME, AND NEVER WAS ANY OF MY ACTUAL IDENTITY USED, AGAIN JUST FULL NAME AND BIRTHDATE IS REQUIRED. SO IF CROOKS WISH TO OPEN AN ACCOUNT AND DON'T WANT TO BE USING A CARD IN THEIR NAME, THEN BY ALL MEANS THEY CAN OPEN ONE IN YOUR NAME AND GO AROUND TOWN USING IT.THIS IS NOT SECURE, IT IS NOT RIGHT, AND I WONDER IF THE FTC KNOWS JUST HAS THIS COMPANY CONDUCTS BUSINESS. I AM DETERMINED TO MAKE SURE THEY DO.

Only for the well to do . Got one to see if it would work at RedBox. Had trouble using the temporary card at the cash register. Finally got the personal card, and found that they had charged 4 months service charge which is normal, but when I called and asked if they keep charging you service charges even if you have no balance and they said yes !  I think up to 5 months . You have to call to discontinue the card.

Actually, my mom gave me a Walmart Money Card for Christmas thinking it was a gift card.. and it is TRUE that it's not activated at the register. You have to call a number or activate it online, after which you can use the card, but they also will send you a permanent card in the mail which is like a credit card.. so unbeknownst to me.. I got a new credit account for Christmas that I didn't want and they won't close.

I purchased a moneycard debit/visa and have direct deposit going in it.  I wasn't too crazy about using a bank account, and really, all I ever use is a debit card, no checks.  You can in fact get money at any Wal-mart register or at the kiosk they have.  However, it does cost $3.00 dollars every time you put cash in it.  Sometimes, there is nobody at the kiosk, the customer service line is long and slow, and there are dozens of people at all the registers.  This means you have to leave walmart and use an atm at a bank or the atm for whatever bank Wal-mart has allowed to open shop.

The Wal-marts in my area are at least seven miles away...another pain!  Since GE are the ones sponsering the cards, maybe it should be them to put there own atm's in all Wal-mart with no charge to use it.  If that were the case I would continue to use the card, however, I have decided to start a bank account instead.

One of the responses to this RipoffReport said that the story didn't make sense because "all such card are activated at the register". This is actually incorrect and I wanted to rectify the information. Wal-Mart offers a card in concert with GreenDot and GE Moneybank called the "Wal-Mart Moneycard". This is a Visa or Mastercard Check Card that you can fund via paychecks, direct deposits, or cash. Your name is displayed on the card and it works as either a PIN Debit or a Check card. This isn't a regular prepaid VISA gift card, or green dot gift card, or anything like that, it is for all intents and purposes a checking account that Wal-Mart/GE run for you, but without access to a bank or the account through any means other than the card.

The cards have your name, an expiration, a security code on the back, and are tied to your address. You can even have government checks direct deposited to them. When you first sign up for the card you are given a temporary number but it is very limited in what you can do with it.

Long story short, this RipoffReport makes perfect sense and is basically the same thing that happened to me.

Green Dot decided to play with my money as well...and that was a mistake! I dont even have a Green Dot Card, I have (soon to be had) a Ready Card Visa. They affiliate with Green Dot so that you are able to re-load your card with a Green Dot Money Pak, if you are not near a Ready Card Ready Station. Well, after having my Ready Card for almost a year and using moneypaks from Green Dot to reload them, Green Dot decided to report to my card issuer (Ready Card) to place a hold/block on my card (having a $663.58 balance) because 2 months and 13 days prior my card was loaded with a moneypak that was not purchased (Their first mistake/Lie) and that I would need to fax a copy of the original receipt of said moneypak! After speaking to Robert at Ready Card Customer Service and searching for this receipt that I had no idea what I had done with, I went into full Rage! I called Ready Card back and wanted info to contact GreenDot directly and conveniently they have no such contact info just a fax number and a claim number, AND they can not offer any other resolution as well. So I went online and retrieved several numbers to contact GreenDot and almost had to play chess with the automated system just to find out that without an active card...the system would not patch me through! So I had a friend call concerning her card she has though Greendot, and jumped on the line with my concern! I was told that there was nothing they can do, and that I used my card improperly and reloaded improperly! So I argued with this rep on & on about how there is no way possible to load an inactivated, unpurchased moneypak, that she should go back to her script of lies and try another, and she did so. She then told me that Green Dot was investigating fraudulant use of my card, and that I had too many reloads/withdrawals per their federal guidelines. When I asked for further understanding I was told sorry thats all the info she can give. So I understood it as, we jacked your money, and due to our jackyourmoney rules I cant give you any information that would let on to our scheme! So I kindly let her know that I wasnt just gonna let them have my money, I DIDNT CARE IF IT WAS 50 cents, I want my money and they can close the account And give me my money I wish to no longer be a cardholder with them. Two hours later and a call to the BBB, & OTS, and an act of Congress Later, I was able to get the Rep to send an email to my card Comp to release my funds and close my account all the way, and "Run me my money" !! I was told I needed to give them 2 days for this correspondence to take effect and that does not include the wait for them to process a check for the balance left on the card! I must honestly say that I have not been this pissed....ever! and so....After reading complaint after complaint, I have decided that something must be done legally to The Green Dot Corporation and ALL of their affiliates! This has been going on way too long and they are getting away with too much! Day after Day, purchases are being made for these cards and their affiliates' cards as well and the consumer has no idea of the dangers they are in. Not to worry, I will not rest until everyone knows about their service practices, all based on my experiences with them! For more information on reporting companies like this you can go to The Federal Trade Commission Website https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ (with them the more complaints the more they will look into the company as a whole) unfortunately they dont handle individual consumer complaints., AND/OR you can Contact the OTS Consumer Response Center to reach a dedicated consumer affairs specialist. Here you can find Legal Info, and Public Info as well.

Yes, with this card you have to activate at home online or over phone.  The issue I had is I loaded for $500.00 as I was making a large purchase online and my bank would only allow a certain amount per day to charge to card. So I needed to purchase a $500.00 card to complete transaction.  When doing it over phone it initally asks you for a phone number in which I entered, then birthday and social security.  Not knowing it is verifying your identity (I am thinking it is just registering me for future junk.) the system transfered me to rep.  Not knowing why I am being transfered to rep I give her my information again (the system only said you are being transfered and being this is the first time of me doing this I thought it was normal).  The rep asks me for phone number, social and bday again, I provide it to her.  SHe says sorry I am not able to verify you, you will receive a check in the mail for your refund of 503.00 in 7 - 10 business days.  I am like what!!!??? My home number is in my husbands name, so my social and birthday did not match the telephone owner, real stupid IVR process.  THey should initally ask for your social and bday.  Not everyone lives in a home by themselves, if you are marrried, have a room mate, live with parents etc, this does not mean your name is the person that owns the telephone line.

No problems for me

#14General Comment

Wed, October 20, 2010

The ONLY problem I have ever had with the WMMC is that there isn't a WM close enough for me to regularly load the card.

No crazy or unknown fees.  Don't get me wrong, I've been charged fees, but only the fees that I know are going to be charged via cash back at an ATM or bill pay type fees.

I have always had issues with regular banking.  I stunk at keeping up with my account.  Living paycheck to paycheck, I would rack up fees like no ones business on a regular basis, so it seemed.

I bought into the Green Dot WMMC a few years back to see if it was worth the inconvenience of not having an actual bank account.

I have closed my bank account.

There are very few inconveniences having this card.  However, I will be getting a Green Dot card from a 7-11 (the are on every other corner around here) or something so it will be much more convenient to load.

FOR ME, this card trumps banking with the criminally insane big banking scheme.  It may not be for everyone, but it works for me.

Until I experience a real issue with this system will I become partial.  So far so good.

OH MY GODDDDD!  Are you really serious?  With the level of education you have demonstrated, there is absolutely NO WAY you were a CSM!!!  (Customer service manager).  Jesus man, you couldn't even type a single complete sentence.  It's really no huge wonder that those of you who cannot use these cards are not mentally capable of such a task.  Do not blame that on the company, that is YOU!!!  I absolutely HATE walmart as well, but if you are going to complain about them, there are more than enough REAL things they screw up, and there is no need to go blaming them for your own mistake.  You were retarded and didn't follow directions....Face it!!!

I do not like the walmart money card at all. You should go with netspend and here are the reasons why. You have 0 monthly maintenance fee, you can choose to pay per transaction which is a dollar or the small monthly fee. Plus when you desposit money it only costs $2 instead of Walmarts $4.95 charge. Plus Walmart money card customer service charges two dollars just to speak to them. Plus in order to dispute a charge by Walmart money card you have to write them and then you never get a responce back, that is my guess. Plus if you lost your netspend card they don't charge you to replace it. Netspend is actually the #1 rated pre-paid card. Nope I don't work for the guys but I do like netspend. I recently got a Walmart Money Card after losing my Netspend and I had to wait for it to come in the mail and there was a purchase I wanted to make really fast on EBAY! I went and got a Walmart money card and applied $20, they gave me a temporary card until mine with my name came in the mail. What they did not tell me was that I would not be able to reload that card again, I would have to wait for my card to come. I went there to load again and couldn't. You also can buy the card at CVS but they don't give you a temp card like Walmart does. Now I have a problem with an item I bought from Ebay, it was insured and I just got a refund issued from Paypal to this card and it is not credited. I called Customer service but they said it would be a $2 fee which is rediculous. I cant wait to get my NETSPEND in the mail. This is a huge hassle and the fees are rediclous so I too am out of money. I will never use this card again unless I am desperate. Plus they are still going to charge me the monthly fee and Netspend don't. I am debating cancelling since I have Netspend or may save for emergencies, I am undecited. However I would not load a lot of money in the card because if it gets stollen you will just be out of luck, they say you are not liable for un-auth charges but that is not true, plus you have to write them for displutes. I had researched all the pre paid cards before making my decision and if you do the math too, you will see Netspend is MUCH cheaper and the cards EXP date is longer then Walmart. All they care about it making you buy another card and spending more money.

#17UPDATE EX-employee responds

Tue, November 25, 2008

I am an ex-employee and a ex CSM and yes when you buy a walmart money card. It is activated at the register. BUT you have to take it home and either go online or call money card and give them the activation code that are in BIG numbers on your recipt. If you loose that number it will be very hard to activate the card. When I was a CSM I would have the cashier let the customer know. DO NOT LOOSE RECIPT. The activation code is there and I would have the cashier's circle it for them. I myself am not giving this card any credit either. I use to have one and so did my son. When I went and had my paycheck put on it. They were refusing me my money. Just because of the fact that my son. ( who has is own account) his account went overdrawn and so they told me I could not have my money. They were putting a hold on me. I called them and they refused to open my account and let me get my money. So I ended up going to the media and they help. The home office would not help either.. Since Sam Walton passed away. Walmart does not know what REAL customer service is like.

Because GE Money has no respect for its customers. They never fix their mistakes and they expect you to accept whatever lie they choose to tell you. They completely ignore valid complaints that come from customers. They cannot ignore complaints filed the Office of Thrift Supervision or Federal Trade Commission I'd file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission against Green Dot, GEMoney and Walmart. You might also contact the Office of Thrift Supervision. I know they handle GE Money credit complaints - not sure about prepaid cards.

I LOVE THE GREEN DOT CARD......I am sorry you had such a bad experience

#20Consumer Comment

Wed, November 12, 2008

I have used the green dot card for over a year...I love it. I use it in place of my banks debit card. I actually keep 2 of them going cause when I buy something over the net I put limited funds on it so they can't scam me and take more money out than authorized. Also at gas depots I use the green dot so I don't have to use my debit card. In fact got gas at 7-11 and some how they charged me twice the green dot people called me and inquired about the same amt charged knew it was a mistake and cancelled one of the charges. This was on their own I didn't even they charged me twice. Ordering on the internet is another good way to use it. You can be more relaxed knowing if they scam you they can't get everything in your bank account.

#21Consumer Comment

I also got a Green Dot Rippoff Debit Card. Their card display says nothing about how they charge your balance into oblivion before you even get to really use your money. Monthly service fees for no such services rendered. They want you to do all the work online so they don't have to hire people but not to dispute a charge, you have to write them a letter. How Lame??????? I had much better luck with the citibank VISA card I bought at 7-11, will be going back there. And yes thayese are debit cards, but if you hand over cash to a store attendent you would thinkthat was it, ready to go, but they don't tell you , that after you activate it, the card you bought cannot be used as the credit instrument , you have to wait in the mail for a card from them, ripp off, they are using the money!!!!!! The Citibank VISA card from 7-11 is a plastic card, try them. I agree Green Dot is not operating like a traditional card company but as a marketing scheme in my opinion. Buy a Virgin cell phone top-up card and the funds are right there ready to use on your phone, Why does Green Dot make it so difficult because their business is in the fees everywhere, out to make their millions in the millons of fleeced customers. They are not on the up and up. It smell of rotten cheese. Cut the bad out and throw them away.

First of all, You obviously have no clue on how to use a prepaid VISA. Activating at the register is only for gift card VISA. Not Reloadable VISA. Second of all, you asked how come I didn't pay in cash? I wasn't aware that I could scan my cash and send them as an email. Thirdly The purchase for some Items that some customers had pre ordered from me. And, the money I lost, is from not being able to supply my customers with the merchandise. And, yes the merchandise was gone by the time I got it all worked out. Plus, I wish that I had as much time as you, to be able to waste a day and a half trying to do everything, and get it all together just to lose money(I just explained why I lost money in this). Fourth of all, I would have been happy with a refund. But, I was not happy with a refund that would take 7 to ten days to get to me. Especially when I was suppose to be able to use it imediately. I had this cash in hand, there is no reaason I should have to wait for a refund. And, by the way Wal-Mart didn't offer me the refund. They told me to call Green Dot and get it from them. Last of all, One of the reasons it is a rip off, is because if you search I am not the only one who has had this problem. And, "it was not as advertised". Please refrain from commenting on issues you have no idea about. Or, at least ask questions before you assume that you know everything. And, please remember the rebuttal rules: Rumors, speculation, or innuendo unless you have personal knowledge that your statements are true. Since you don't know anything about the Prepaid VISA this rule also applies to you. Trivial comments (i.e., Nice report!) which do not add anything useful to the discussion. Another example, is "Cry me a River!!!!!!"

First of all, such cards are activated AT THE REGISTER at the time of purchase. You do not activate them yourself after you get home. Your story does not make sense. Second of all, if you needed to "make a purchase immediately" and had the cash in hand to do so, why didn't you simply pay cash for your purchase rather than buy a gift card with which to do so? Another part of your story that does not make sense. Third of all, how did $305 suddenly become over $1000???! Yet another part of your story that does not make sense. Fourth of all, how is this a rip off? Walmart graciously agreed to refund your money via check. It looks to me like they have resolved this in a fair and judicious manner.

I left walmart after spending the day there. I started calling Green Dot, I talked to several people..Again! Finally after 4 1/2 hours, at one point not hearing a human voice and being on hold for 70 mins or more. A Green Dot employee returned to the phone, telling me once again that the card was ready to use. For some mental appeasement, I asked for 8.95 I paid for the card to be refunded. Ruth, Green Dot employee told me I was lucky she wasn't charging me for the calls and refused any compensation. I lost money, used over 60.00 plus in gas running to and from walmart. Walmart absolutely refused to refund my money. Walmart did offer a 10 gift card. I was afraid at this point to try the card again fearing, rejection. I put together my order, entered the card, it went to an error. So I called to place the order and much to my surprise. The card went through. All the time spent, money lost, gas used, metal anguish not to mention I own a visa but the bank was closed so i could not transfer money, so I thought withdraw money and buy a prepaid. They promised I could use immediately. I would NEVER purchase one of these cards again. I still think I got totally Ripped off. CONSUMER BEWARE!!!!

After dealing with walmart all night, I went to walmart the next day I spent four hours at walmart, The managers were there to assist me, they tried to rectify the problem. To no avail. I again called Green Dot, I was on the phone two more hours. They instructed me the card was ready to go..Transaction denied! All they could tell me was there was a hold on the card..WHERE IS MY MONEY! Totally inept assistance. Still unable to make purchase. Losing money as I type. TOTAL RIP OFF!!!!!
