I just received the following fake forum registration to my email address that I never use, which clearly was harvested or purchased somewhere:

I've never registered nor ever I knew such forum existed. It iks either some kind of phishing scam, fraud, harvesting of information, hacking related activity, or advertising of their forum.
I did not click on any links on that email.
I never use the email address that they sent this to. The X-Orignating IP address that this was sent from and their website forum IP are all originating at Amazon.com Inc.

One of the technology newsletters that I receive speaks of this problem.
People use made up e-mail addresses when they register for something, because they don't want the junk mail themselves.
Or sometimes, they mistype the e-dress.
Either way, it sounds to me like you are the victim of an individual who didn't put in his own address correctly.
You did the right thing, you ignored the e-mail.
You could have complained to the company that sent the e-mail, but most of the time, they don't bother with any investigation, because it takes too much time.
