Washington Mutual says I owe money but they have the wrong person Columbus Ohio
Washington Mutual, BCG, BCR and Phillips & Cohen Associates have all called claiming that my wife has a credit card account with them that is in default.
Each of the times that we were called 5-8,5-10,5-21 and 6-6-2008 I gave them proof that they had the wrong person and they said that they would remove my phone number from that accout.
After the 3rd call I even sent a certified letter telling them to cease and desist all attempts to contact us and that we were not the people they were looking for and also that we did not, nor did we ever have an account with them. I also explained the content of the calls in detail.
They even tried to say that the fact that I sent that letter was proof to them that we were the right people and that was why it was ignored.
I think I will file a report with the FTC next week.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had already ran credit reports from all 3 reporting agencies after the first call. They were clean. I filed a complaint with the FTC today.

You might want to get a free credit report (www.annualcreditreport.com) for your wife and take a good look at the items reported. It is possible that she has been the victim of identity theft. If so, the sooner you determine this and start to correct the problem the better it will be for you. Good luck with this situation.
