Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I don't know much about this bank or it's different departments, as I have never done business with them. Obviously the person who had the new phone number I received a month ago did.

As all the regular readers of this forum know, I'm a person who is awake all night and sleeps daytime. The collections dept. of Washington Mutual has called my number 7 times now and have been told each time the person they are looking for no longer has this number. They say they will remove the number from their list, only to call and wake me up at 8 to 8:30 am, a few days later.

This morning my roommate/best friend answered and again asked that the number be removed and was told it would be. Next he hit the CID button on the phone and called the 800 number back to find out it was Washington Mutual when it was answered. My roommate then asked to be put thru to a supervisor. The man that answered asked him for an account number, we said we have no account and wanted the phone number taken off the list. The man then asked for the phone number and claimed it was not in their list, to which he was told 'apparently it is as we were just called and woken up'. Then my roommate asked to speak to a supervisor again. After awhile on hold a person claiming to be a supervior picked up.

My roommate nicely explained that he was NOT this Marlene they were looking for, she did not have this phone number any longer and after 7 early morning calls which woke us up and asking to be removed from their list, we were still getting called. The supervisor again put him on hold and then came back saying the number had been removed from their call list. My roommate told them thanks and if another call was received we would be looking into filing harassment charges.

Time will tell if what we were told will really happen. If another early morning call wakes us up, you will all again find me posting an update to this report in the early morning hours.

Now, for those that don't know me from my rebuttals in here. I am very sick with Crohn's Disease (down to 80 lbs for those keeping track), I recently have found out I will more than likely need a hip replacement due to the joint of my left hip developing a flat spot on it, which is causing extreme pain on top of the chronic gut pain from the Crohn's and some other assorted auto immune disease related problems, which have not had medical attention during the years I was married.

I just recently moved away from my husband, am gearing up to start the divorce and have moved in with my best friend to have a roof over my head. He works nights and sleeps daytime, so I've continued my crazy sleep hours after moving in here. I am doing my best to get rid of some major stress and sleep isn't easy to come by, with the new combination of medicines I've been put on, now that I am finally getting a doctor's care. The last thing I need is to be woken up by collectors who can't be polite enough to remove this phone number from their list once told the person they are looking for no longer has it.

As I said above, I do hope I won't have to do an update to this report saying we got another 'wake up' call from this company. I have a lot to try to get done today and it's not going to be fun to do it on only 4 1/2 hours of sleep. :(

Call the cops. They will take it seriously.

They have detectives that deal with this sort of thing as a full-time job. It's called "telephone harassment." Let the collection agency try to bulls*** them and they lose their phone lines.

Thanks for the nice comments (((request for ed in last paragraph)))

Peter, we rarely agree on anything in here, so it's nice to do so for once! :) We are on the no call list Carol, but it's only updated every 3 months and the phone number has only been ours for the past month. It may work in 2 more months to avoid us from getting other collectors calling for the woman who used to have this number (don't quote me on that, just sounds reasonable once they realize it's not hers any longer), but it won't protect us any now. My best friend who's taken me in has a low voice that carries, so he can really sound intimdating if need be to them if they decide to get nasty with him in the future. It really wasn't needed today. I've seen many reports on the bank itself over the years, but hadn't seen many on their collection methods, so decided to do the report this morning to make others aware of it. Hopefully we won't hear from them again. I'm really starting to feel the lack of sleep this evening. If they bother us again we will follow Steve's advice he so kindly gives everyone in here and send them a certified letter asking for no more contact, as we are not the person they are looking for and have no idea where she is. *Waves* to Steve! If you have any other hints, let me know hon .. thanks ahead of time as always. Thanks for your post Jennifer, but I already know quite a bit about hip surgery, my daddy was one of the originals to have it done at The Mayo Clinic back in 1970. I have an online friend who also just had both of his replaced and he's filled me in on the changes made to it over the years, which I must say are quite impressive. I've had other surgeries in the past and am not scared of them at all. Anything that gets the pain gone is cool to me. LOL. I must say though, I'm getting pretty wicked wheeling around in my wheelchair these days. Hadn't used it in awhile and I'm kinda having fun doing donuts and slamming on the brakes to see how far I can make it skid. (Yeah I know, I *should* act my age, as my lovely daughter would say, but really now, what fun would that be?) I can limp around the little apartment we have on my own or with a cane I picked up at a dollar store, so only need to mess with the chair if I'm going out, so I avoid walking on it too much and making it hurt more. My roommate/best friend is 20 yrs younger than me, so that really helps. He has the energy to help me when I get worn out and just need to sit down and do nothing for awhile. He's proof you can meet wonderful people online and make lasting friendships. We met in a chat 5 or 6 years ago and had so much in common we became best friends really fast, regardless of the age difference. I pretty much 'adopted' him as my kid and he's even the person who turned me on to this forum. I am so sorry to hear you have to have your hip redone. I hope you aren't in as much pain as you were the first go round. I thought my Crohn's pain was bad at times (I pass out from it), but the throbbing, stabbing pain this hip is giving me every time I put weight on it is about to drive me out of my mind some days. My doc will probably up the dose on my pain meds on Monday, so at least that will help for awhile till my tolerance builds again. *sigh* Let me know how it goes for you if you think of it. ED can pass my info on to you also if you'd rather talk in email or would like to hear how the surgery was when it was first done in the 70's. I was only in 8th grade back then, but remember a lot of it and have quite a few funny stories that still make me smile to this day.

Do Not Call List does not apply here

Collection agencies are not affected by the "do not call list" for obvious reasons. Imagine if every deadbeat debtor out there put their number on the "do not call list" as a means of carrying out their thieving practices even longer ... no debts would ever get paid in this world. LOL

When having problems with any business, contact Federal Trade Commission and file a report with them. While on the ftc.gov website place your phone number on the Do Not Call List. Washington Mutual Bank is now owned by Citicorp bank and yes it is horrible.

Sorry to hear

I just wanted to say that I'm sorry to hear that you had to deal with this on top of everything else you're dealing with. I've had two hip replacements and I was just told that the one I had 13 yrs ago will need to be revised. If you have any questions about hip replacements, I'll be happy to try and answer them for you. This will be my 7th surgery on my legs so I do have a wealth of "inside knowledge" You can post your questions here or get my e-mail address from ED
