Being a resident of Atlanta, I decided to use a local company for my hosting needs. Interland, now web.com (probably changed the name to hide from all of their bad press and problems), promised me exceptional uptime and service. They were a little pricey, but my website is my business, so I splurged.

Their service got progressively worse. On one occassion, my website reverted back to a version from two years ago (taking my business down) and no one even let me know anything about it.

In my final month of service, the servers were down for several 8 hour stretches (always not detected by web.com, but me or my customers). I FINALLY had to do something and did an emergency move to another ISP.

My new ISP is 1/3 the price and has now been up 100% since my move (and allows me to host unlimited domains on this account).

Having put web.com/Interland behind me, I find that they charged me for an additional month (I had been warned by a friend that they had a reputation for doing this). My calls to them were met with no sympathy and marginally fluent English. I was told I didn't give them 30 days notice. I told them I couldn't have because I didn't know their service would be so crappy or I would have moved much earlier. Still, no help and so I paid for another month. Maybe I'll contest the charge.

I felt the obligation to warn others so companies like this don't prosper and eventually go away. I also hear they are a terrible employer in Atlanta. Many complaints from that side as well.
