I took out a lease with Park Plaza apartments in Anchorage Alaska and signed a lease in January 2008 to run through September 30th 2008.

In the lease agreement I had a pet deposit of $400 for a cat and $600 security deposit.

Beginning September I handed in a written notice to Susan Tillamon the Park Plaza community manager. She told me that I would loose $200 deposit from the pet deposit of $400 as it was non returnable. I pointed out that my lease made no mention of a "non returnable " pet deposit.and asked Tillamon to supply a copy of this statement where this is stated that Weidener would withhold $200. After a few days passed Tillamon stuck a annendum pet lease agreement on to my door. The annendum was blank and unsigned which I pionted out to her. In very small print on the right hand side was a Weidener "updated March 2008 I pointed this out to Tillamon in front of a witness. I reminded her that my lease signed in January 2008 and therefore made no mention of a non returnable $200, Tillamon then grabbed the blank annendum and ripped it up and said that she would waive this deductible, the reason being is that she was fed up with my complaint in regard to this non refundable $200 pet deposit.

I was given a phone number of the head manager for Alaska , namely Maureen Chandler. I was given her number by a law firm in Anchorage who is looking into Wiedners water charging system. They have a Texas firm who generates each month a billing cycle amount. The problem is when I asked how they come to the dollar figure it is a calculation done by the number of apartments, they do not have a water gauging system in place so tennents are being charged for water and sewage no knowing how the calculation is determined by usage.

The problem was the law firm gave me Chandlers home telephone number and when I phoned and asked in regard to the pet deposit withholding she went ballistic. I told her that I had no idea that it was her home telephone number but she was very angry and I had to hang up.

On the day I was leaving I had a walk-through with Tillamon and her maintenance personal. She pointed out that there were small nail holes from pictures that had been hanging. The lease states that small holes are acceptable but Tillamon deducted $150 to paint and touch up and to replace one bulb. Next Tillamon stated that Chandler was so upset with me phoning her at home that they are deducting the $200 non returnable pet deposit. This was all in front of my witness who additionally helped me clean. They even charged me for the small tin plates on the cooker which is under normal wear and tear.

This is a disgrace Weidener and their managers are way out of line and apparently do this very often. It does not take a great brain to figure out just how much money Tillamon and Chandler re taking from tenants by this lucrative scheme that they are running.

They knew I was leaving Alaska and I am travelling the east coast of America then visiting Australia. Had this not been the case I would have served both these unscruplous managers. Alaska law states that there is no "non returnable deposit" in a lease agreement its illegal. Tillamon and Chandler are well aware that there is no legal entity in Alaska that would take them to court so they are very comfortable in extorting extra money in this scam that they are running.

I have a witness to all of the above statement, let this be a warning to any potential renters of Weidner, Park Plaza Apartments, be very careful !
