I was behind on a car payment by a week. I called the company I have done business with for 2 plus years. I explained the circumstances and said I would be catching all up in about a week. The man was verbally nice. He asked me for my banking information implying this was for security purposes.

Just before Christmas I went to put gas in my car to get to my new job and found I had no money. I contacted the credit union and discovered the agent of Wells Fargo had withdrawn my account of $325.68 which was all I had. I contacted the company and was told I authorized the agent to do this. I DID NOT. This left me with nothing- absolutely nothing. I had made the payment required early on the day I said I would. This agent withdrew my account several hours later.

I received two emails regarding withdrawals. They were identical and indicated the $315.00 I did indeed pay. They emails were several hours apart and had the same confirmation numbers. I called Wells Fargo and explained I was concerned that I received two confirmations numbers. A man said, "Someone probably didn't think it went through so sent another confirmation. If the numbers are the same, why are you worried." I said, "I want to make sure there were not double payments withdrawn- or worse." I was assured this had not happened.

I contacted the credit union and a rep immediately faxed the statement to Wells Fargo. After over 20 calls, being routed all over the USA, I was told a certified check in the amount of $325.68 was being returned. It wasn't. A man that represented himself as a supervisor apologized to me. Another man who claimed he was the supv of the man that withdrew my account continued to say I okayed the withdrawal. I adamantly reiterated that I did not then, now, or at any time authorize any monies to be withdrawn. I am trying to find out who to notify of this violation of what is surely several laws.

That's what happens when you give out your banking info. You can bet that Wells Fargo will debit your account every time you get behind in the future. You had better open a new account as soon as possible. NEVER give out account info to anyone !
