Contacted Win Van Lines. They seemed very responsive. Got an estimator out within 2 hours. Seemed like great service. I received a BINDING ESTIMATE from them for $2,600.

I sent them a payment of 10% ($260).

Day of the Move:

1) They arrived very late so it was into the evening.

2) Truck was unmarked.

3) Paperwork they wanted me to sign was from another company: All United Van Lines ("it's just paperwork and this is our sister company").

4) By the time they'd finished wrapping EVERYTHING possible with cardboard and tape, they presented me with a bill for $2,500 JUST FOR THE WRAPPING. This was 3 guys for about 4 hours and 80% of the packing was already done!

5) Refused to unload the truck when I refused to pay more than my BINDING ESTIMATE and got physically threatening.

6) They drove off after getting my credit card number. It was either that or they were going to take all my belongings to storage and start charging me $250 a DAY!

Two days later they let me know that I was "OVERWEIGHT". They ignored the "BINDING ESTIMATE" they'd given me. Just said it wasn't valid. Now they wanted to charge me $6,800 for the move ON TOP of the packing charges. One conversation with the owner resulted in him screaming at me on the phone and making more threats about putting my goods in storage and charging me.

Day of Delivery:

I had a police officer present at deliver so they couldn't use physical intimidation.

I managed to negotiate the driver down $800 after a LONG argument. It was either pay or he was going to drive away and put my stuff in storage 3 states away and start charging me $250 a day. Police could do nothing because THEY HAD PHYSICAL POSSESSION of my property.

The boxes were smashed up. Terrible packing job. Worst of all, they did not have on the truck our most important furniture piece: a large expensive china cabinet. The trucker showed me paperwork that showed that he never loaded it and told me to call the main office.

I've now called the main office 10 times. Sent email. Send letters. They claim no knowledge of the furniture.

This was a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Research will show you (as it showed me later) that these companies: Win Van Lines, R1 Movers, and All United Van Lines are all fronts for the same scam artists. They know that once they have physical possession of your stuff, you're done for. They pulled every nasty trick in the book to jack up the price. They were abusive. They were a nightmare.

STAY AWAY FROM THESE SCAMMERS! They are VERY good at what they do: RIP PEOPLE OFF.

Update from Original Poster

I am the person who filed the original report on Win Van Lines (which apparently is well supported by many other postings). I just looked up my original report and noticed that there was an apparent response from me (Ca mover <--Notice the lowercase 'a' and lowercase 'm') that was apparently releasing Win Van Lines checking account information!!!!

First, I did NOT write that rebuttal. Second, I NEVER received a check from them. And, I would never post anyone's checking account info on the internet. I don't have a way to verify the account information that was posted, but I'd be willing to bet that it's fake.

Here's what actually happened many months after they ripped me off for thousands of dollars, using what I now know is called a 'hostage' strategy.

After months of trying to get my missing furniture back from them and being ignored, I received a call from someone at the company!! He was SO apologetic for the way I had been treated! He told me the company was under new management and was trying to fix any possible past mistakes. He told me that to make up for it he was going to make sure to find my missing furniture and, oh, by the way, would I be willing to accept a couple hundred dollars to remove my ripoff report posting!! :)

Needless to say, I wanted my two large pieces of furniture because the pieces they had essentially stolen were the only pieces of furniture my wife had from her mother's estate. So, I told them that if they delivered the furniture I would certainly consider removing my posting. He told me he would look for my furniture and would call me back. Miraculously, within the hour he had found my furniture and promised it would be on a truck and delivered to me with 4 weeks.

Four weeks later, it ACTUALLY ARRIVED!!! And, it was not damaged in any way. But, there was CERTAINLY no check! I wish!!!

Funny thing is that I expected to hear back from the company after that to get me to remove my original posting, but I never heard from them. Perhaps they are all in jail now, or have started other companies, or have left the country....

Sir, it appears that the company was working with you to correct the problem. By you posting account information and routing number just shows that you sir are atempting to create more of a problem for yourself than anyone else. They found your items, returned them to you, sent you a check, it cleared I take it, but now you want more? sound crazy that you would do what you did. It looks as they did all the right steps with your move. By your own words they did do the right thing. How would you like it to have your account info posted on the internet? You where making a good statement until the account junk. It doesn't sound like a rip off, just a bad decission on your part. Don't act like a grade school kid!!!

I got a call from them saying they have found my two furniture pieces that were missing and they were going to send it to me. The storage manager told me that he found the furniture in the storage when he was updating the inventory. I was also told that they would be sending me a check for $3700 with the two furniture pieces. I received my furniture the same way it was wrapped, without any damage. And also the check for $3700. But I paid them $6800. If you guys know how to use their account information, It is here and use it as you like. They bank with Bank of America. The Account number is one zero nine eight nine six six five one three. And the routing number is one two one zero zero zero nine five eight. Use this information and do what you want. I got this from the check they sent me and I would like to share this information on the internet. I got my money but I am still not happy. I would do everything to get all my money back.

This blog is erroneous and liable and we are in process of contesting it as of 11/24/2008. Basically this client has taken four(4)times the amount of items presented to us at time of his free on site estimate. When our movers showed up to his home they informed him of the difference in the inventory. He signed a change of order in the beginning of the day with the acknowledgment that the original estimate would be NULL and VOID and agreed to still have us do his move then contested his signed agreement post fact. The "FACTS" as presented are a one sided misrepresentation of the real occurrence. This is the exact reason we are so cautious and will not just tell people whatever they would like to hear to win their business. He chose to try and hustle our company and was unable to. He is now bitter and has decided to post the above comments. We will continue to pursue the matter in a professional manner. I hope this has helped everyone to understand the difference between what has been posted above and what has actually taken place.
