I hired Yancey Bros. in Sacramento to build an arbor. Signed a contract and a few days later they contacted me and stated that they could not build that arbor for the contract price. Tom Yancey(owner) went to my house and stated that more work needs to be added and the biggest problem is limited access and they will need scaffolding put in the pond to gain access for construction. Yancey generated a change order of an additional $3600.00. To keep my landscape project moving forward I accepted the increase in price. When installers arrived and constructed the arbor they did not use any scaffolding in the pond nor did they have any scaffolding in possession. They stated that they had plenty of room to work. I never pursued issue further because I was just happy that one more project was done in the yard.

The clincher is that a few years later the arbor partially blew over in a storm. The arbor is rated to 90 MPH winds and the actual recorded winds gusted up to 65 MPH. Contacted Yancey and Operations manager contacted me 2 weeks later and STATED THAT THIS WAS AN INSURANCE MATTER WITHOUT EVEN COMING TO MY HOUSE TO INSPECT THE DAMAGE. In the meantime I had several arbor contractors come by to inspect the arbor for an insurance quote. They all were surprised that the arbor blew over but upon careful inspection noticed that for the size and type of this particular arbor not enough screws were installed to strengthen the arbor. They also stated that for good business practices Yancey should have come out first thing to inspect problem.

My initial contact with Yancey Bros was January 7, 2008. To this date February 7, 2008 I still had no one from Yancey Bros. come by to inspect the damage. Even if it is an insurance issue they should at least come out to see the damage of a product that they built.

I will be taking this to the highest level for resolution. BAD BUSINESS practices. I do not recommend.
