I have been a member of ISM for years, it was not my intent to renew this year so I was going to let the membership lapse; The date of renewal was to be July 1, 2019.  On June 25, 2019 I woke up to find my cc had been charge $190.00, I called ISM and told them I did not receive a notice and did not wish to renew and please do not process the charge (it was pending), I was told, "no refunds on membership".  I told them I did not intend to renew, no one asked me, no one notified me and this was not right.  I was told, "It is not our job to notify you that an email has gone out".  I explained I did not receive an email and this was boarderline fraud, the women stated, "if that is what you are going to tell people we are going to have a completely different discussion".  I'm not certain what that meant however, it was clearly a threat, I told her that if she felt letting people know the facts was going to have a "whole different discussion" then maybe she should rethink her side of the conversation.  I looked at my renewal and the status said, "terminate-at-end", I guess that does not matter.

Bottom line, do not deal with this membership, go to American purchasing society or NIGP or other Purchasing Organizations, we are a small group and we don't make a lot of money.  We need to be supported by people who have our best interest first, these people have their pocket book first.  My membership was not due for another five days and they say, "No refunds!"  they shoudl not have taken the money yet regardless!  ISM used to be great but it now appears they have to revert to ripping people of their own profession off to keep their doors open, at least that is how it appears to me.

Why did this business have access to your money?  Did the charge come to your credit card?  If so, you can dispute it with your CC company.  Did you actually give this company access to your bank account?  Well that's just stupid, don't ever ever do that again.  The money is probably lost in that case.

I'm guessing you had auto-renewal on this membership.  In any case, it's best to contact a company in advance to let you know you are CANCELLING your membership, not "letting it lapse" when it expires, or you can run into problems like "missed payments."  Next time when you KNOW a membership or policy is expiring, contact the business and be proactive about ending it.
