The Kinston, NC office branch of LJ Electrical Company is advertising a "fully accredited state sponsored apprenticeship program" for new employees seeking their journeyman electrical license. This program is established through the NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research).

I began this program on August 07, 2023. I was terminated from the program on October 29, 2024. I was employed by the Kinson, NC office and worked aboard Camp Lejeune of Jacksonville, NC. This is my experience:

I was treated poorly in the program from day 1. I was supposed to be paired with a journeyman electrician to earn on the job training. They do not train. Most of the time I was on my own doing non electrical related duties like cleaning their yard. Four months into the program I was told to run conduit on my own (I am green) on a scissor lift (never used one before). I was working around pressurized lines and there was no superintendent or journeyman in sight.

When I was a little slower then a journeyman's pace, I was written up (February 7, 2024). There was no constructive feedback given, ever. I continued on their "PIP" and was again written up in July of 2024. This time it was because I had no spotter while operating a company truck. Things went downhill from there when I was paired with a journeyman who eventually terminated from the company. I was on my own again and my questions were ignored. The superintendents are never on site to help. The journeymen do not care about training you. I was let go on 10/29/2024 for no reason other than I was green.

About the only thing good about this program was the classroom instruction at Coastal Carolina Community College. I was there with perfect attendance and studied hard. The bosses didn't care. It's a production based program and they want to milk as much as they can from their apprentices. Do not recommend working here!!!
