Shabby Chic is a style of interior décor that shows signs of wear and tear or where new items are distressed to achieve a shabby look. I got a reproduction painting version of ‘Shabby Chic’ when I received a very shabby Chagall reproduction painting from 1st-art-gallery which I had foolishly commissioned for $400. It wasn’t in their online catalog but I sent them a photo which I have attached and asked them for a faithful reproduction. I waited the agreed 4 weeks for them to paint it, then waited another 2 weeks and then yet another 2 weeks before I finally received it in a battered cardboard tube from China. They had promised me a photo of the finished painting before shipment but forgot to send it so it was with some anticipation that I unrolled the packed painting. Then my heart sank and my anger rose as it looked like a child had badly painted it.
I quickly emailed 1st-art-gallery to arrange a refund but David from 1st-art-gallery told me they only refunded paintings on their website not commissioned paintings. I told him the colors were wrong, that the details on the houses at the bottom were absent and that the two birds on the violin player’s knee were missing. ‘Look’, smug David replied, ‘I’ll knock $10 off your next painting order with us, $5 for each missing birdie’, then he disconnected the call. Needless to say, I won’t ever be ordering from them again and I advise you not to order from 1st-art-gallery too, unless you’re a big fan of the Shabby Chagall look.
