I lived in one of the Meadowlark Way apartments for over two years and I was happy with almost every aspect of my stay there. I paid my rent on time every month and had, what I thought was, a good relationship with the management.

Unfortunately for me, I didn't know that management chooses to pay completely unreasonable cleaning fees to a private company and then passes the ridiculous charges on to their former tenants through deductions to their security deposit. I spent over six hours cleaning my apartment before moving out and the only thing that I forgot to do was clean the oven (it's a self-cleaning oven that requires no manual labor). I cleaned the baseboards, floors, windows, inside/outside and behind/under the refrigerator, outside/behind/under the stove, scrubbed both bathrooms as well as any cleaning service would, cleaned the blades of the ceiling fan (which is 12'-15' high and required climbing a ladder), etc. The only charges that should have been passed on to me was for cleaning the oven (which requires pushing two buttons and walking away).

The cleaning "service" charged the management company $165 for this plus throwing away two bottles of cleaning supplies (which they probably kept since they were brand new and I just didn't take them with me), one small box of Miracle Grow that was in the storage closet, and one rug that I must have left in one of the bathrooms. When I asked management about the cleaning charges their reasoning was that the cleaners normally charge over $300 but since my apartment was SO CLEAN, they only charged $165. So essentially they pressed two buttons on the oven, made one trip to the garbage can, and inspected the apartment that was "so clean," and charged $165 for this. Is it me or is this is simply ridiculous?

I hate to write something like this but I feel ripped off and I'm hoping that reviews like this will encourage management to find a cleaning "service" that charges reasonable rates. If they're getting ripped off by their cleaners that's their problem. But they chose to make it mine so I'm just trying to return the favor with this report. I move around a lot and have lived in apartments in four different states. I take pride in the way I live and leave the apartments that I live in. I have never been taken for such a cleaning scam and I hope that my report will keep others from going through this.

One last thing: when you move in the carpets look clean but they're old, cheap and of poor quality and should be replaced after every tenant moves out. After just a couple weeks you start to see all the old stains coming back to the surface. If you move in here, demand new carpets and don't trust the management to treat you fairly if you can't attend the walk-through.
