Face Shop Pro 4 Review
I was moving in November, and did not have time to use it. After testing the software on three computers, Sony Vaio, Dell and HP (all of them 2 years and newer). I have nothing good to say about this software.
The outputs are often arbitrary, unpredictable, and impossible to repeat. First of all, it is full of bugs. I was using it on Windows Vista based computers. For example, when I click out of the software, it usually freezes. When I reload a saved file, the face is distorted into some atrocity. If I don't place the points correctly on the first time through, and try to go back to a step after changing the geometry, the face becomes grossly disfigured, and unidentifiable.
I don't like the auto installation, because it does not give me the option to choose into which directory I want it installed. When I use the back menu or undo command, the software sometimes jumps forward to a random step. I followed the instructions provided, and read the entire manual but....
Upon reimport, there were errors like, "Wrong number of vertices." Eventhough I applied it to the same figure. I installed it as a standalone product for use with Poser 8. When I use the side profile view, load image, the morph is distorted into complete chaos.
The face texture maps are horrific, they are blurry and often distorted. The software will distort the texture, even when points are placed correctly. The face texture maps are unusable, for example, eyelashes overlap on the eyelids and look bad.
I was able to apply a few morphs successfully to my own OBJ figure heads, but they looked unnatural, with sharp polygons and strange proportions. For example, the figure's eyes were so large, wide open, that it looked like the eyeballs were falling out.
The software requires too much trial and error, to get halfway human results. Also, I don't understand why we have to trace the curves and place the points, three steps in a row and still get poor results. With this kind of repetition, I would expect better.
In short, this has been a total waste of time. I have also spent a lot of time preparing high resolution face photos. The software is overpriced, the claimed $90 retail value is ridiculous, even $55 is a rip-off. Maybe, $25 would be reasonable but after my experience, I would not want it for free.
Also, the advertising is misleading, since the results look nothing like the original photographs. Some parts of the software and manual are confusing for new users. For example, the software should allow the user to manipulate the shape of the skull only, if they wish to do this, and leave the other features alone. But instead, it forces a user to go through a lot of extra steps.
I have found an excellent alternative Argile 2 for PC sells for under $130.

The software is far superior in every way, for a bit more cash.
And Face Shop Pro does not work on my Sony Vaio computer at all due to some graphics card incompatibility. However, Poser 8 runs well on my system so this is very strange.
The first time I asked for a refund, the seller was very hostile. The second time, I told AbaloneLLC.com I would complain to a third party, if he did not issue a refund, the seller responded by quoting my contact information in an email, including name, address, and phone number --As if to say, "Beware, I know where you live." I view this conduct as a direct threat and have lost all respect for the seller.

Abalone LLC is the developer/distributor of FaceShop. The product has been in development since 2004 and selling since 2007. There are currently 14,000 users using the product successfully.
We normally issue refunds for people unable or unwilling to learn to use the program, even when they pass the 30-day limit. This customer is an exception. She wrote us stating that she bought another program for more money, that our program is "crap" and if we don't send her a refund she will ruin our reputation.
We are not willing to submit to blackmail or abuse.
