Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

Account Now is on the internet. They say that when you sign up with them you will have a prepaid Visa debit card to use anywhere. You can up load cash, checks and your taxes on it. I am very careful when I sign up for anything and I read all the paperwork. I have made sure not to use ATM's that take extra fees and everything. Besides the ATM fees, there is supposed to only be a $10 charge monthly for mainanence. I swiped my card at a gas pump for $25 on Saturday.

On Sunday when I went to use my card it would not go through! After getting on their website, I saw a charge at the gas station for $126 and next to it read AUTH HOLD. I went through the website frequently asked questions on Account Now and saw that they will put a hold on anything you use your card on that doesn't have the payment taken out immediately such as rental cars and hotels. So, I called customer service with Account Now because there is an option to have the hold dropped sooner than a week for a $10 fee and possilbly something faxed from the place where the carge was made.

The lady I spoke to through Account Now said that there ws nothing they would or could do and had no clue what I was talking about as far as the option to have it dropped for the $10 fee. I explained to her that I have been in the hospital twice recently and had been waiting 3 weeks for a doctor appointment which was tomorrow and I needed that money back despertely. I told her that I was never aware of this before, and had used my card before at a gas pump with no problems. I also told her that I could not reschedue my appointment and she just kept repeating the same line over again until we lost the connection.

Account now is a lie, and they are not what they promise to be for anyone.

Dear Rachel,

I apologize for the delay in my reply. I am sorry to hear that you had an issue with your account.

If you purchase gasoline using a credit transaction, a hold may be placed on your account for approximately $126 or more which may limit access to your account balance for up to five business days. As soon as the merchant finalizes the transaction, any amount that was not used (from the authorization) will go back into your account balance.

To avoid such holds, we recommend that you purchase gas using a debit transaction. Simply press debit and swipe your card at the pump. You can also take your card inside to the cashier and use your card and PIN to pay for the gas as a debit transaction.

If you have additional questions or concerns, I would like to help. Unfortunately we cannot discuss your personal information in a public forum. Can you please send us an email at [email protected] referencing your name (as it appears on your card), last four digits of your card number, and best number to reach you at? Thanks and have a great day.

Sincerely,

GF

It is the gas station that places the hold

If you look at the gas pump where you filled up your tank you will see a small disclaimer that there will be a hold placed on your account. The disclaimers I have read are written in such a way to make you think the hold is coming from the card servicer, but it actually is determined by the gas station management as to the amount.

The normal time period for this hold on your funds is 3 business days in my experience. It doesn't happen when you use a credit card but only these pre-paid cards or debit cards.

The best thing to do is to use cash when getting gas if you don't have the extra funds in your account to accomodate the hold.
