I purchased a "luxury" vehicle, brand new, in April 2000. The 2000 Acura 3.2 TL has been a nightmare, and has cost a small fortune in repairs and time.

In November 2001, the transmission failed. The transmission was replaced with a REBUILT transmission (in a NEW car!) with a 30,000 mile warranty.

The second transmission failed in May 2004. The car is only FOUR years old. It was not covered by any warranties, and cost me nearly $6000 to repair.

After researching the WWW, I have discovered numerous complaints about Acura TL transmission failures, yet there has not been a recall!

American Honda Corporation must be made responsible for their poor craftmanship, and do a recall.

If you have never been in a vehicle when the transmission fails (and I hope you never are) it is a traumatic experience! The car is thrown into a low gear immediately, which throws your tires into a reverse spin--it feels as though you had been rear-ended by a dump-truck! This is dangerous, as no brakes are applied, thus no brake lights are showing for the poor people traveling in the cars behind you as your car rapidly de-celerates!

Honda/Acura--TAKE NOTICE!!!!!!

Actually....There IS a Recall

American Honda issued a recall known as the "Automatic Transmission Safety Inspection" recall affecting many Acura TL and CL models of various years. Acura has made an amazing effort to get all the affected vehicles repaired as quickly as possible. After all, this is not only a problem for the owners of the affected vehicles, but also for Acura. The ratio of vehicles receiving the recall inspection to vehicles actually needing a new transmission is very small at best. I have been employed by other auto manufacturers so I have seen how things work on the inside. I can assure you that NO other manufacturer works harder at quality control than Honda/Acura. A car is a very complex machine. There will always be problems here and there. The quality of a car company is not only in how few issues they have, but in how they deal with the ones that arise. Nobody does as well as Honda. Not even a close second place.
