Agape Inc. Free Garmin Updates Garmin Free Updates search in google leads to a scammer website. Internet
I was trying to download the free update to my new Garmin GPS.
I punched into google "Garmin+free update", when I was taken to the website I www.gps-help.com. I attempted to "download" the "update", when it stopped mid-installation with an error message and up popped two boxes saying there were 7"outdated" drivers, along with 9 high risk malicious files. It had a live chat and a phone number.
They called me, after I provided them with my name and phone number. She called. I said that she needed remote access to my computer. She had a East Indian accent and proceeded to tell me that I would need to purchase a driver package for my Garmin. I explained to her that this was a "new GPS". She then stated that it was "on me" that it was my drivers that were "corrupt".
She proceeded to show me a box that showed all these alleged "corrupt drivers". She then put a purchase plan in front of me. The drivers for Garmin 1 year was $89, .....it went up to a "Lifetime Drivers" at $399. I informed her that I had a laptop that was under a year old and this could not be. When I demanded that she get off my computer, because I knew she was a scam.
She asked, "Why do you think this is a scam?" I told her there was no way that my laptop had corrupt drivers on it, because I just did the Windows 10 maintenance and HP maintenance on it. I had to ask her three times to get off my computer, and she still didn't hit the "end" icon on the remote access, I had to.
I then looked at the website listed in the beginning of the GPS screens and typed it in and the addresses were distinctly different. I really could have been taken. The phone number that she called from was the same listed on her website, 1-888-334-8994.
