Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

We had the AHS warranty service included with the purchase of our house.  I have had varied success with them but the least success with their plumbing services.

The first service call was for an electrical problem.  They assigned a service technician to me.  Before they could call me and book a visit, I looked them up on the internet.  According to KUDZU.COM and the BBB website their service is very below par.  I called back and the next company they assigned turned out to be a very nice person who handled my initial request and then helped me with another problem at no charge.

The second problem we encountered was plumbing.  The Technician they assigned came out, told me he was very happy that my dishwasher was VERY basic and it would be easy to repair, that these new dishwashers with computers took to long to get parts.  Even so it took him a week to get the part and replace it.

The third problem, plumbing, I had a leak in my bathroom sink, I had people coming over, so I bought a rubber sleeve, attached it and stopped the leak.  The next day, the tech came out, I thought that we would have to cut the old pipe at the uneven solder and correct the curve.  He said that I already did what he could do and that pulling apart the wall to cut the pipe wasn't, it was improperly installed.

The fourth problem, tech from the same company came because my drainpipe from my kithchen to the sewer was leaking.  He went into the crawlspace, screwed around for 30 minutes with another pipe sleeve, came out and said he had to call AHS.  He cam back inside and said that the pipe was installed improperly, it didn't have the necessary 1/4 inch slant to properly drain and the company would call to tell me it wasn't covered.

I received a call from AHS explaining that it wasn't covered uncer my policy, I pointed out that it couldn't be installed improperly becuase it was the original pipe in the house and it had to pass inspection first to be built, and send had to pass the inspection before we bought the house.  She offered the usual, well if you want to have a second tech come out and give his opinion, if he disagrees, we go through the same rigomorall, if he agrees I pay for another visit.

I got off the phone and asked the tech how much to fix the pipe, he told me 1400 dollars.  He looked like he was waiting for my response to ask him to leave, which I gave him.

The first thing I did was to start reading all the AHS complaint reports online and started to notice similarities.  One, if the job is more difficult than replacing a part or wrapping something in a sleeve, they don't want it.  Two, all of these guys were some type of eastern european, one of the reviewers called them the russian mafia.

The second thing I did was call my old plumber, he came over, and in 10 minutes told me that my pipe was rotten, we needed to replace the joint and pipe and it would cost 600 dollars.

I asked about the 1/4 inch slope, and he looked at me like I was nuts.  He said it was sloped fine an was close to 1/4 inch, but it was a 45 year old cast iron pipe, that had my sink, garbage disposal and laundry ran through it.  He said 1)try dawn dish detergent , 2)use less laundry soap because most people use too much, 3)don't put meats or greasy things down the disposal, 4)once a month fill up both sinks in the kitchen and then pull the plugs to flush the system a little.

I called and told AHS that I would not be renewing my account with them. That they were crooked and fraudulent.  Don't be decieved about the idea of inexpensive repairs. As soon as the repair passes the profit point for the techs, they will claim improper installation and you will be out of luck.

They just want your money and don't want to help.

I did find a great electrician though.
