You must not fly often if you think getting to the airport 40 minutes before departure is sufficient. Maybe back in 1973 but not today. You have NO idea how long TSA screeing will be. And given that it IS a small airport the desk agents are the same ones boarding and deplaning the aircraft. No where on any of your documents or on Alaska Airlines website does it say to arrive at least 40 minutes prior to departure.
Alaska Airlines owes you nothing.

LAst I checked they still recomend 2 hrs before departure for domestic. You did your self out of a flight and won't understand why it might be your fault.
