Alfonsie S. Barnes ripoff contractor
Mr. Alfonsie Barnes previously did work to our 1st home located in Silver Spring,MD last year and because of his quality of work and reasonable price my husband and I agreed to hired him for a ceiling installation at our new purchased home in Laurel.
He arrived to the house prior to settlement to measure the ceiling and to give an estimate for the work. The ceiling installation was supposed to have been installed within two weeks of receiving the downpayment of $750.00. However, Mr. Barnes never showed up during that time.
Since I was having a surprise birthday party for my husband on I decided to call him to request that he complete the job to which he replied that it would be completed in time for the party. That never happened. I called him repeatedly (and have phone records to show that I did) and he would never take my calls until I accused him of stealing and threatened to call the police.
A verbal agreement was made that he would come out and complete the job soon or esle returned the money. Since then Mr. Barnes had not returned our money. My husband and I filed a small claims lawsuit against Mr. Barnes in the District Court of MD for PG county however, the courts informed us that Mr. Barnes never accepted the summons and the court date February 9th 2001 at 8:45 AM for the case has passed.
We also found out Mr. Barnes did the same(take money and did not produce any labor) with other clients in the District of Columbia and that Mr. Barnes is not licensed
