My complaint with Allstate Moving and Storage is very similar another complaint I found on your site concerning Allstate Moving and Storage. I had contracted with Allstate to come to my home on August 22nd at 9:00. To ensure that everything occurred without a hitch, I called to confirm prior to the move day on August 19th and Omega (the manager) assured me that the men would arrive on Sunday at 9:00. At 10:00, when the movers failed to show, I called the 1-800 number and again spoke to Omega who said that they would be there shortly. I called again at noon and every hour after that, but I got the company's answering service. At approximately 3:00pm (six hours after they were scheduled to come), I went to another location and called and they answered the telephone. I explained my situation and was told by "Bob," who sounded exactly like Omega that the movers had already gone for the day and they would arrive the next day, because they had me scheduled for Monday -- not Sunday. However, I was told that they would arrive at 9:00 on Monday. Since they had not arrived on the date that I had originally scheduled for them to come out, I asked Bob for a discount and he said that he would give me a 10% discount.

On Monday morning, when the movers failed to show by 9:30, I called the office again and was told that the movers had to stop for breakfast and would at my home no later than 10:15; however, they did not arrive until 11:00. When the movers arrived, I saw more of the company's shady practices. Omar told me that no one told him anything about the 10% discount, so I couldn't get it. I told him to call his office. For fifteen minutes he talked to someone at his office concerning my discount. Wanting to know with whom I had spoken to and when I told him Bob, I was told that Bob isn't authorized to give a 10% discount. When I told him that I would just call another company, they granted me the discount.

Throughout the move, I observed three able-bodied men dragging their feet, carry one small item out at a time. When fifteen minutes went by and I hadn't seen either of them, I went outside to see what was taking so long, and I observed the two 20-something men just standing inside the truck. Immediately after seeing me, they jumped down off of the truck to go back into my apartment to retrieve more furniture. At that point, I called my husband and told him to meet me at the new house.

A move that had taken only one hour when we first moved into the apartment (with only 2 men), took 2 hours with Allstate's three movers. After arriving at our new home, we were told that we had to pay them for 5 hours of work or my furniture would not be unloaded. When asked why we had to pay up front or why we had to pay for five hours, Omar informed that they would keep our furniture if we failed to do so. Omar said that if it didn't take the full 5 hours then they would give us the money that we are owed back, but they would do so by crediting our account. Since we were paying in cash, we had a problem with them not wanting to pay us cash back if we were owed any. Omar's standard answer was because it was the company's policy. Again, since they hadn't done anything that they said that they were going to do before, we were extremely leery of not only handing over cash to them, but of concerned that they wouldn't credit our account either.

Additionally, Omar had added additional charges to the price that I was originally quoted over the telephone, so my husband called the police to attempt to resolve the issue. Angered by us calling the police, as soon as the police left, Omar instructed his cronies to close the truck and attempted to drive away, so I called the police back again. Since they were not familiar with the neighborhood, they became disoriented and drove back around past my house, and were stopped by the same police, who told them to offload our belongings.

The movers were not only unprofessional and lazy, but they were also completely inconsiderate of my home and my belongings. They damaged numerous pieces of my furniture and walls, but when we pointed them out to Omar, he informed us that those things were damaged before. And went on to say that if I had a problem that I could file a claim through their company, which we plan to do.

I hope that my comments save someone else from doing business with Allstate. I only wish that I had done my homework before hiring them in the first place.
