I have had a cellular/digital phone with Alltel (formerly Cellular One) since 1995. I have two seperate lines of service. Service seems to have deteriorated since Alltel took over.

On the phone my wife uses, we have had constant trouble with her not receiving her calls. Either the phone doesn't ring, or service is constantly dropping. We have upgraded her phone three times (at our expense) to solve the problem. The last time, the phone that we upgraded to had to be tsaken in for repairs within a month of putting it into service.

Now, I'm being told that the reason we are having problems with our service is because of the area of town we live in. We live in the Northeast valley (Scottsdale & Frank Lloyd Wright). Alltel has told me that the reason we have problems, is because they do not have any towers out here. I don't see that as my problem. I'm paying the same price as someone who lives next to one of their towers, and therefore expect the same level of service.

The last straw for me happened this last weekend (5/20/01). I was at my parent home near 7th Street and Dunlap. I tried calling my brother and kept receiving a busy signal. I then tried making the same call from my parents Qwest cellular phone, and was able to get through. I tried again from my paperweight. Again, I received the busy signal. I then tried calling my my wife at home and on her cellular phone. I got the same busy signal. It is at this point that I threw the phone in the trash.

I have 4 months left on an annual contract with this phone, and am currently arguing with Alltel to let me out of that contract. I have another year and a half on my wifes phone.

I will never again use Alltel for my cellular phone service.

Class-action law suit? ...they have over sold their service in the Phoenix market.

I was with VerZon. After them screwing me and everyone that calls me (I had calling party pays), after 12 years, I switched to Alltel, what a joke of a company.

Aside from dealing with the same problems you mention above, when someone does leave a message, it will not notify you of the message till hours later, sometimes the next day!

Even though your signal and battery is 100%, your call is just kicked into e-mail.
I feel that they have over sold their service in the Phoenix market.

We should all be complaining to the ALLTEL and demanding a significant reduction in the bill! Like 80% sounds fair to me.

Any consumer having the same problems should file a rip-off report. I E-mailed badbusinessbureau.com. They said they would be willing to place advertisements looking for victims when more complaints have come to their attention and would consider organizing a class-action law suit.
