On July 10th, 2008 in Dundas, Mn my husband had just returned home from work and a couple of young men came down the road to greet him. They were in their mid- twenties and claimed to be participating in a contest to raise money for a trip. They said that they were college students and the more magazines that they were able to sell, the more points they would earn.

After wasting an hour of my husband's time, he finally gave in and said that he would get a two year subscription to Parenting magazine as a gift for me. This seemed like the only remedy to make these men go away. The young men were very persistent to have my husband pay with cash, as it would earn them more points if he payed immediately with cash. My husband gave them $1 and a check for $42.

The receipt that my husband was given looks ligitimate but something just did not seem right about this situation. As soon as the men left my husband typed in the name of the company in google and the first thing that popped up is this website. We were able to call the bank and put a stop payment on the check but they took his driver's license information.

We are so upset that this happened to us, we don't usually fall for things like this but the young men seemed so nice and my husband wanted to help out a good cause. Don't fall for this company's scam! It has only been about a week since this happened, so hopefully all we lost was the $20 to stop payment and our dignity to want to help people.

We have contacted the local police and gave a description of the men. The biggest advice that we were given by them was to ask anyone that comes to your door selling things for a peddlers transcient license. Anyone selling door- to- door must first check in with the city who then checks in to make sure that they are ligitimate.

How do we stop this from happening?

I have read report after report after report of these door to door scams. Working in law enforcement, I can tell you that the best thing to do is get all of the info you can if a person comes to your door looking to sell something. Get their names, company info and license plate info as well. Then, call your local authorities. There is A GOOD chance that the person coming to your door does not have the required license to solicit in your area. Unless we all start calling the police on these people, then the scams will only get worse. Alot of these folks are just out to scam you. A good many of them are convicts or are running from the law.
