I received a letter from AOL indicating I had a balance due on the account I closed in January 2007 in the amount of $19.95. When I cancelled the account, it was indicated to me that the current balance would be cleared, prodided that I maintained my account for emails, etc.

I called the collection department, apparently somewere in India. I was given arbitrary information regarding billing dates, amounts, etc. Thru the course of asking basic questins, the representative was very defensive, argumentative and had a tone of downtalk, as if he was superior, and was positioned to be abrupt and rude, even while the information on the account being provided was inaccurate and beyond the scope of the persons abilities.

I was transferred to a Supervisor, Chris Carter (apparently a false name), who instructed me to call the account cancellation department to clarify the issue. I was given a false number that dialed into a pornograph phone line. This individual exepressed shear and utter disdain to me as a customer, downtalk, was abrupt, defensive, incompetent, then, turned around and criticized me.

Summary, I dont like downtalk, incompetence, being given incorrect information, company individuals not having the ability to offer accurate information, being given a false telephone number into a pornographic phone line, the inability to answer questions or offer basic help.

Apparently the call center I dialed into is in Armenia. Perhaps its a cultural issue.

Extremely rude people, a third world level of service, outright disdain and resemtment. Abrupt, interuptive, unable to assist & downright rude.

Sheds a very poor light on AOL and Parent Company Time Warner Cable.

Stay away from this company. I am confident there are many individuals that experiences something similar. Although the labor cost may be lower in a third world country, Americans do not appreciate poor customer service, no responsiblility, etc. In the long run, I am sure the cost savings is negated by cancelled accounts, lawsuits, etc.
